Wage: Depends on qualifications ($27.90-$34.10 per hour)
Schedule: Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Occasional evenings and weekends.

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Planning and Scheduling, the Transit Scheduler is responsible for conducting complex and precise transit scheduling tasks related to the development of passenger timetables and bus operator work assignments, conducting route analysis, and preparing supporting documents for fixed-route service.
Transit Scheduler Qualifications:
- Minimum of two years professional experience in the transportation industry (including logistics, scheduling, shipping, delivery, customer relations, supervision, operations, etc.).
- Excellent navigation skills including understanding of street networks, cardinal directions, neighborhoods, landmarks, and major destinations.
- Advanced computer expertise as well as experience with Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with spreadsheets, databases, and word processing; ability to learn and navigate various phone applications, virtual meeting platforms, and other complex software programs.
- Understanding of the principles and practices of cartography. Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and produce legible maps.
- Good critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to independently solve problems by analyzing complex systems and data, interpreting/identifying patterns, and proposing optimal solutions that balance various priorities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to collaborate with others.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver's license and meet Metro's driving standards.
- Ability to pass physical, back screen and drug screen, and complete background check.
Transit Scheduler Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Promotes Metro’s mission, vision and values to continually enhance organizational culture.
- Manages the technical development of operating schedules for fixed-route service using current scheduling software (Trapeze) to conduct trip building, blocking, run-cutting, rostering, and other scheduling processes.
- Completes the general bid and schedule documents for service changes at least three times each year, including additional and/or modified services for special events, emergency service, and detours as needed. Ensures all services strictly adhere to operator bid requirements, Collective Bargaining Agreements, and all applicable agency, state, and federal policies/regulations.
- Organizes and examines schedule adherence and on-time performance data; pursues observational input and feedback from others; monitors and analyzes overall system performance; generates recommendations for improvement.
- Constructs precise and professional fixed route schedule data and related information for use in various customer-facing applications, print publications, and records as reportable to the National Transit Database (NTD[LC1] ).
- Assists with responding to detours, snow routes, and other service exceptions, ensuring proper communication and coordination with internal departments, external partners, and third-party vendors as necessary.
- Maintains inventory of bus stops and verifies consistency between digital records and on-street conditions. Coordinates to ensure all public-facing and internal records are consistent and current, making corrections in a timely manner.
- Conducts technical research, planning, and statistical reporting for special projects, studies, and programs as needed.
- Regular and predictable attendance and performance of essential job duties.
- Other related duties and special projects as assigned.
Transit Scheduler Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior work experience and demonstrated responsibility in a comparable role, preferably in a fixed-route transit environment. Familiarity with transit operating policies and Collective Bargaining Agreements.
- Understanding and experience in areas such as, but not limited to, transportation planning, urban planning/policy, geography, cartography, statistics, data analytics, logistics, project management, or similar fields.
- Demonstrated understanding and experience with Omaha’s fixed route system including routes, timepoints, transit centers, etc.
- Excellent ability to present technical findings to a non-technical audience through clear and concise written, visual, and verbal communication.
