The Director of Accounting Ops functions as a direct report to the Chief Accounting Officer. The Director of Accounting Ops manages all accountant positions. These activities/functions are to direct and coordinate the accounting, financial reporting, planning, reimbursement, internal control, and budget functions of the agency. Key responsibilities of this position include managing all day-to-day financial operations, such as budgeting, accounting, grant accounting, financial analysis and reporting, trust funds, and cash management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directs and prepares all monthly financial reports with support schedules for monthly board meetings.
  • Directs all general ledger functions.
  • Directs banking (treasury) and regulatory functions.
  • Review and prepare audit schedules and ensure proper booking of audit adjustments.
  • Directs all grant accounting.
  • Directs payroll functions.
  • Directs all capital asset accounting.
  • Directs ongoing work process assessments and identify and implement improvements to policies, procedures, internal controls, and tools that realize greater operating efficiencies and enhances customer service support.
  • Facilitate and support required accounting and financial management training for all accounting staff.
  • Backup accounting positions during vacancies and paid time off.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Preferred: Master’s degree in accounting or finance with 5 years of relevant experience
  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance with 7 years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge and experience with grant and contract accounting
  • Knowledge of governmental accounting and fund accounting experience

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

  • Basic math skills required.
  • Ability to work with reports and numbers.
  • Ability to calculate moderately complex figures and amounts to accurately report activities and budgets.

REASONING ABILITY:

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to utilize Internet for resources.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Current State of Texas Driver License or if you live in another state, must be currently licensed in that state. If licensed in another state, must obtain a Texas Driver License within three (3) months of employment.
  • Liability insurance is required if employee will operate personal vehicle on Center property or for Center business. Must be insurable by Center’s liability carrier if employee operates a Center vehicle or drives personal car on Center business. Must have an acceptable driving record.
