Job Summary

At the direction of the Chief of Academics and Schools, and in collaboration with the academics department and other Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) staff, works to ensure quick, effective responses to local school needs related to instructional leadership, effective teaching and learning, operational needs, and student performance. Coaches, models, supports, and develops the capacity of principals to improve teaching and learning in schools through continuous improvement and the encouragement of innovative and effective instructional leadership. Aligns local school student performance goals with those of MNPS, ensuring that the needs of all significant stakeholders in schools are addressed.

What you will do
  • Serves on the level-alike team and collaborates with members and other offices, using best practices (e.g. inquiry cycle, continuous improvement frameworks) to build a common understanding of school strengths and needs and to ensure resources and supports are meeting school needs through the use of a strong, viable school improvement plan.
  • Models effective leadership practices, including articulating a vision for effective instruction, utilizing time management strategies, prioritizing work, attending to one’s own professional growth and the development of instructional staff through reflection and critical analysis of practice.
  • Monitors school performance and analyzes student performance; works with cross-functional teams to assure effective and efficient operation of schools and addresses specific program needs and builds and strengthens relationships with directors in other offices to coordinate support for schools as needed.
  • Serves as lead support for a group of schools in their level-alike grouping. Conducts planning events with principals and teachers to assist them in establishing and meeting local school improvement objectives and provides coaching and support to principals.
  • Helps to design and lead professional learning opportunities for principals and school leadership teams to foster change in adult practice and accelerate student learning and performance.
  • Conducts observations of principals as part of the team evaluation system, giving input to district executive staff on principal evaluations.
  • Acts as a point of contact for parent concerns that come to the Office of Academics and Schools. Prepares a variety of report and correspondence; disseminates best practices to schools and communities and proposes ways to address performance challenges.
  • Serves as the representative of the Chief of Academics and Schools and the Director of Schools as requested and performs other related work as needed.
Education Qualifications
  • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university with certification in supervision, administration, or curriculum development Required

  • Demonstrated system wide leadership experience and commitment to developing effective local school leadership Required
Skills and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of the school improvement planning process, leading for equity, leading high performing teams, and leading professional development.
  • Ability to lead and manage a large team of school system experts to provide prompt response to issues related to student performance.
  • Knowledge of adult learning and proven ability to provide effective professional development.
  • Thorough knowledge of the MNPS Professional Growth System including the application of the evaluation process and the leadership standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate, support, coach, and supervise, and evaluate school system employees.
  • Thorough knowledge of building the capacity of school leaders for the purpose of improving program quality and instructional practices in closing the achievement gap.
  • Ability to develop principals and instructional leadership capacity through coaching.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication and analytical skills.
  • Ability to build partnerships among significant stakeholders.
  • Uses educational technologies that support teaching and learning and the monitoring of school progress.
  • Ability to use multiple sources of data to diagnose schools’ strengths and needs and provide differentiated support to schools.
  • Knowledge of effective master scheduling.
  • Knowledge and application of the MNPS Professional Growth Systems (PGS).

Equivalency
Starting At: $139,721.11


Salaries are determined by factors relevant to the position which may include education, experience, and other qualifications. Final compensation decisions are made at the discretion of MNPS in alignment with organizational policies and procedures. The stated salary range for certificated teaching positions is calculated based on 201 days and should be viewed as a reference. All provided salary ranges serve as a general guideline.
