Location : Washington, NC

Reports To : Executive Director

Salary : $18.00 Hourly

Schedule : 40 hours per week, Full-Time

Position Summary :

Our company is currently looking for a professional and responsible individual to fill the role of Grants Officer. This person would be responsible for identifying, defining, and developing funding sources to support existing and planned program activities as well as lead the development, writing and submission of grant proposals to federal, state, and private funding agencies. The Grants Officer will work closely with the Executive Director on multiple projects and grant programs. The purpose of this position is to prepare proposals and grant applications which lead to awards of funding for the various nonprofit entities under our portfolio. Then effective management of the grants that are awarded to ensure the programs achieve the desired outcomes.

Essential Functions :

The Grants Officer will be responsible for the overall grant management of multiple funding programs. This management will include the following responsibilities :

  • Manage the entire grant cycle of a program, from development to launch; pre-award to post-award;
  • Refine and implement processes that are aligned with current grant practices and policies;
  • Consistently review and revise the efficiency of the grants process using data analysis and technology;
  • Develop scope, timeline, and budget to meet award distribution deadlines;
  • Act as a key contact for clients, grant applicants, awardees, academic institutions, scientific experts, and external vendors;
  • Lead and support projects that advance the quality of effective grants administration both externally and internally within MPM & MHCDC;
  • Work with the Administration & Finance department to ensure grants compliance, programmatic budgets, and award payments are accurate and timely;
  • Plan and oversee logistics of scientific reviews via conference call or in-person meetings;
  • Research and write grant requests to other non-profit organizations for additional awards;
  • Participate in a culture of learning related to the field of philanthropy and grants management;
  • Act as a consultant to scientific staff, informing on best practices to capture complete proposals and provide the necessary documents for a successful review;
  • Assist with the development of scientific scans and consultation reports;
  • Work with colleagues to find solutions to common programmatic and grant process issues.
  • Maintains primary responsibility for grant schedules and tracking grants;
  • Serves as a liaison to all funding agencies and organizations;
  • Works with appropriate personnel to research, develop, write, and submit letters of inquiry, concept papers and grant proposals;
  • Coordinates and follows-up on the progress of submitted proposals;

Position Requirements

Qualifications :

Minimum Education, Skills, and Abilities

  • Grant writing experience, preferably with a housing and community development focus;
  • Experience which should demonstrate a proven track record of securing new funding opportunities; comprehensive knowledge of research, and the ability to distinguish and identify opportunities for housing and community development programs.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure;
  • Excellent writing and verbal skills;
  • Be highly organized with the ability to implement systems and follow-up processes;
  • Proficiency in research, interpreting, and analyzing diverse data;
  • Excellent Computer skills (Microsoft Office Word, Access, PowerPoint, and Excel), and database management skills;
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work collaboratively and independently with purpose and accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
  • Preferred Education, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree, preferred;
  • 3 to 5 years of experience as a successful grant writer;
  • Previous grant budget development and management;
  • A proven record of securing major grants with certifiable references;
  • Knowledge of grant application process, scoring criteria and funding cycles;
  • Previous federal grant application, submission, approval, and management of funds
