What are the responsibilities and job description for the Title Examiner position at Metropolitan Title of Indiana?

The Title Examiner is responsible for searching real estate records, summarizing pertinent legal or insurance documents, compiling lists of mortgages, contracts, and other instruments pertaining to titles by searching public and private records of the courts, real estate agencies and title insurance companies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Examine documentation such as mortgages, liens, judgments, easements, plat books, maps, contacts and agreements to verify documents such as mortgages, trust deeds and contracts that affect property titles.
  • Read search requests to ascertain types of title evidence required and to obtain descriptions of properties and names of involved parties.
  • Examine individual titles to determine if restrictions will affect titles and property use.
  • Obtain maps or drawings delineating properties from company title plants, county surveyors or assessors' offices.
  • Prepare and issue title commitments and title insurance policies based on information compiled from title searches.
  • Describe any title encumbrances encountered during searching activities and outlining actions needed to clear titles.
  • Travel to and from Courthouse for recordings.

Computer/Office Equipment Skills

  • Proficient in database user interface and query software, including Data Trace, Laredo and Beacon.
  • Proficient in map creation software, including Deed Plotter.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Able to use personal computer, fax machine, printer/copier, scanner, calculator and telephone.

Education

  • Bachelor Degree, Associate Degree or Paralegal Certificate is required.
