What are the responsibilities and job description for the Operations & Maintenance Technician III - Backhoe/Excavator position at Metropolitan Water District of Southern California?
In this role you will work on projects that include : rough and finish grading, grade checking, road maintenance, large excavations, shoring installation, repair and relocation of large diameter (up to 13 feet in diameter) pipelines, and service connections; installation of concrete-reinforced structures and encasements; construction of buildings and substructures; and heavy construction shoring (heavy beams and steel plates) activities. As the Operations and Maintenance Technician III, you will operate equipment ranging from standard vehicles and multiple axle trucks and trailers to a variety of heavy equipment such as excavators, dozers, backhoes, loaders, tractors, dump trucks, water trucks, and cranes used in the construction, improvement and repair aspects of Metropolitan's large-scale water.
In addition, you will assist associated work, including concrete breaking and building cast-in-place reinforced concrete structures; placing and tying reinforcing steel and placing and finishing concrete; working inside large diameter pipes in residential streets and underground substructures; and you will work and travel to Metropolitian’s remote desert locations throughout the year, it is estimated at eight weeks throughout the year. Travel typically happens in one or two-week increments but can vary greatly depending on the project's scope.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience : High school diploma or high school equivalency certificate in addition to a minimum of 3 years’ experience as an equipment operator; OR High school diploma or high school equivalency certificate and attainment of skills through a recognized equipment operator trade training program and / or applicable related experience within a industrial environment.
Experience and knowledge as demonstrated by practical application of techniques and practices specific to heavy equipment operations. Skills necessary include effective, legal and safe operation of a variety of motorized equipment including light and heavy construction equipment. Also requires skills in preventive and corrective maintenance practices related to general construction that are normally associated with equipment operation, and are generally obtained through applicable training and experience.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
Valid Driver's license from a state of residency equivalent to a California Class A with a tanker endorsement and medical certification is required at the time of application.

Expectations of Hours of Service, Emergency and Stand-by Service :
