This position plays an essential role in the operation of Metzler Timber Transport, primarily scheduling and tracking the availability of drivers and equipment. The dispatcher must allocate transportation resources to ensure customer and vendor needs are met. This position consistently determines the most efficient load movements to ensure the transportation operation remains cost-effective in a competitive marketplace.

The dispatcher must possess critical problem-solving skills and be able to prioritize the most important situations while thinking quickly on their feet under time constraints. Ongoing coordination and communication are fundamental to the successful operation of the transportation activities.

  • Work will be dynamic and often fast paced, requiring significant energy and enthusiasm.
  • Use problem solving skills to effectively and efficiently resolve both driver and transportation issues that may arise.
  • Monitor and manage delivery fulfillment of weekly and monthly quotas.
  • Develop trucking routes including consideration for road conditions, restrictions, construction and travel challenges or hazards.
  • Continually monitor, plan, and communicate weather conditions with drivers.
  • Report operational problems and incidents to supervisors; make recommendations and propose solutions to operational issues.
  • Cultivate and maintain effective working relationships with drivers, vendors, customers, and co-workers to reduce the stress that comes with last minute schedule changes.
  • Act as a communication liaison by maintaining contact with drivers, vendors, customers, and management.
  • Track and ensure load weights are maximized.
  • Monitor drivers’ working and driving hours and daily logs for compliance with regulations.
  • Command an understanding of company rate structure and assist in setting and quoting transportation rates.
  • Provide weekly/monthly safety training to drivers.
  • Collect, review and reconcile driver paperwork daily.
  • Complete weekly fuel reconciliations and usage reporting
  • File for and obtain Overweight Haul Permits
  • Review dispatch sheets, maintain subcontractor weekly tracking file, and contact subcontractors who do not turn in paperwork by Tuesday.
  • Recruit new drivers, sub-contractors and new business when appropriate.
  • Be knowledgeable with DOT Federal and State Regulations, by continually keeping oneself updated and trained.
  • Knowledge and experience in overweight and oversize permitting.
  • Other Duties as assigned.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year

  • 10 hour shift

Experience:

  • resource planning and allocation: 3 years (Preferred)
  • Microsoft Excel: 5 years (Required)
  • transportation industry: 3 years (Preferred)
