MGC Pure Chemicals America, Inc. is an expanding and stable chemical manufacturing ISO certified company, located in the Mesa/Queen Creek Arizona area, Forest Grove, Oregon and Killeen, Texas.
Overview:
As a member of the technical staff, this position will play a key role in identifying reliability improvement opportunities, and leading instrumentation & electrical projects. In this role you will be reviewing instrumentation and electrical design for multidiscipline capital and expense projects and providing technical support in completing repairs to instrumentation, electrical equipment, power distribution equipment, protection system, electrically operated motors and other equipment. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including process engineers, maintenance personnel, and project managers, to achieve operational excellence.
Duties / Responsibilities:
Instrumentation and Electrical System Design improvement
- Design and engineer electrical systems for chemical plant equipment and processes, including power distribution, motor control, instrumentation, and lighting.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in instrumentation and electrical systems.
Process Integration
- Apply knowledge in chemical processes to optimize production systems and ensure efficient operation while considering electrical constraints and requirements.
Instrumentation and Control Systems
- Design, implement, and maintain control systems that regulate chemical processes and ensure safety and efficiency, often involving sensors, actuators, and programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and Distributed Control System (DCS)
Electrical Safety Compliance
- Ensure that systems meet safety standards, regulations, and environmental requirements while considering the electrical aspects to prevent hazards and mitigate risks.
- Participate in periodic audits of operating electrical equipment to ensure compliance with corporate and other regulatory requirements.
Project Management
- Plan, execute, and oversee projects involving both chemical and electrical components, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to achieve project goals.
- Participate in commissioning and testing new equipment and instruments.
Troubleshooting and Maintenance
- Identify and resolve issues in chemical processes that are related to instrumentation and electrical systems, ensuring minimal downtime and continuous operation.
- Provide support to plant maintenance activities by serving as technical resource on repairs and maintenance and in providing input in decisions effecting the safe and reliable operation of electrical systems and equipment.
Power Distribution
- Manage power distribution systems to ensure a continuous and reliable supply of electrical energy to the plant's equipment and processes.
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert in electrical equipment groups such as motors, generators, switch gear, cable, UPS systems, battery systems, and high voltage systems.
Required Skills / Abilities:
- Must have exposure to electrical engineering design principles and methodologies.
- Proficiency in MS Office. Willingness to participate in a team-oriented environment.
- Ability to process oral and written information effectively.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and strong interpersonal skills.
- Extended hours and possible shift work are to be expected during periods of high workloads
- Experience in documentation and implementation of engineering project plans.
- Experience in working with general contractors and suppliers in Engineering projects.
- Must be able to be respirator qualified (if applicable to Plant).
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, instrumentation engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in electronic design with electronic circuit technology assembly processes (analog, digital and/or high voltage design).
- Relevant experience in designing, installing, and maintaining instrumentation and electrical systems in an oil and gas industry or chemical manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of industry standards, codes, and regulations.
- Commitment to safety and adherence to environmental regulations.
- Experience in chemical manufacturing is preferred.
