Seeking an experienced and strategic financial leader to serve as the Associate Vice President (AVP) of Finance and Accounting. This key leadership role is responsible for overseeing financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, and compliance. The AVP ensures financial integrity and sustainability while supporting its mission of excellence in education and research.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
Lead and manage the financial and accounting operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and transparency. Develop and oversee financial policies, procedures, and internal controls. Prepare and present financial statements, reports, and analyses for executive leadership and the Board of Trustees. Ensure compliance with GAAP, GASB, and other relevant accounting standards and regulations.Budgeting & Strategic Planning
Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and implement the university’s annual budget and long-term financial strategy. Monitor financial performance, providing insights and recommendations to optimize resource allocation. Identify financial risks and develop mitigation strategies.Compliance & Audit Oversight
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional financial policies and regulations. Oversee internal and external audits, addressing findings and implementing improvements. Maintain strong financial controls to safeguard university assets.Leadership & Team Management
Lead and mentor a team of finance and accounting professionals, fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration. Enhance financial systems, tools, and processes to improve efficiency and decision-making. Serve as a strategic advisor to the CFO and other university leaders.Qualifications Required:
Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. Minimum of 12 years of progressive leadership experience in finance and accounting, preferably in higher education. Strong knowledge of GAAP, GASB, and financial reporting requirements for universities. Experience in budget planning, financial forecasting, and strategic financial management.Preferred:
CPA or CMA. Knowledge of federal and state funding regulations affecting higher education institutions.Compensation & Benefits
