What are the responsibilities and job description for the Peer Housing Resource Specialist position at MHANJ-Ocean?
The Mental Health Association in New Jersey (MHANJ) is a statewide non-profit organization whose mission is to strive for children and adults to achieve victory over mental illness and substance use disorders through advocacy, education, training and services. MHANJ breaks down stigma and other barriers that prevent people from seeking treatment. It builds a strong base of support and network of services for people coping with behavioral health issues and their family members.
Peer Housing/Resource Specialist - will use their experience and knowledge assisting Ocean County residents who are 18 and living with housing insecurities to navigate resources, complete plans of care, and coordinate financial assistance if and when needed. Will report to the HOPE Project program coordinator.
This position requires work schedule flexibility that includes occasional evenings and weekends in accordance with departmental needs.
Responsibilities to Include:
- Provide one to one peer support; focused on social detriments of health with recovery-oriented and person-centered approaches.
- Collaborate with participant on their Individual Housing Plan.
- Advocate and coordinate temporary financial assistance needed by participant.
- Facilitate checkups/face-to-face support/groups/etc. to promote recovery & wellness.
- Heighten involvement and participation in the community.
- Advocacy with participants within the community to assist in reintegration and services needed.
- Use personal experience and/or knowledge to enlighten, motivate, and offer effective coping skills and strategies to participants.
- Transport, in company vehicle, consumers to Board of Social Services, appointments conducive to improving their housing insecurity, job readiness/training activities, etc. when necessary.
- Maintain confidential records.
- Any other duties that supervisor(s) deem appropriate.
Qualifications:
- CPRS Certification and/or CRSP Certification ideal, but not required.
- Knowledge of recovery/wellness-based concepts and evidence-based practices.
- Ability to work independently and as a valued team member.
- Ability to present self in a positive manner and reflect the positive values of MHANJ.
- Exhibits enthusiasm, respect, adaptability, flexibility, and spirit of cooperation in the work environment.
- A strong sense of, and respect for confidentiality.
- Ability to work in a variety of settings with culturally diverse individuals and communities with the ability to be culturally sensitive and appropriate.
- Good communication skills. Good organizational skills. Personal resilience.
- Valid NJ Driver’s License in good standing & reliable transportation.
Full Time (with benefits) and Part Time Positions Available.
