I) Job Purpose
The Family Partner is a direct-care role working face-to-face with primary caregivers / families in the Early Onset Program, a coordinated specialty care program for youth and young adults experiencing their first episode of psychosis. Drawing from personal experience parenting a child with mental health needs, Family Partners provide support, guidance, and understanding to aid in recovery and ensure families' needs are met. They offer non-judgmental, objective services emphasizing developmental stages, parenting strategies, self-care, and stress management. Using a family-driven, strength-based approach, they work to eliminate stigma and improve family outcomes. The role involves providing services throughout Tarrant County, often requiring travel in the Family Partner's own vehicle to various community settings.
II) Essential Functions
A) Provide comprehensive support services including conducting support groups, participating in family team meetings, offering one-on-one support, and helping families navigate various systems (e.g., school districts, mental health, juvenile justice, CPS, and community resources).
B) Use personal experience to build rapport, develop trusting relationships with families, and engage them based on their receptivity and individual needs, attempting contact within 2 business days for all referrals.
C) Advocate for families to promote engagement, empowerment, self-advocacy, and wellness throughout the recovery process, assisting them in making informed decisions.
D) Actively participate in recovery team meetings, providing input from the caregiver / family perspective and sharing information on recovery and the Family Partner role with employees.
E) Assist the Program Director in developing resources and resolving barriers to service provision for families.
F) Support families in exploring beneficial options for their child's recovery, handling conflicts constructively, and responding appropriately to crisis situations.
G) Complete and maintain all agency and program-required training, meeting regularly with a trained Family Partner Supervisor for professional development.
H) Submit documentation at established standards for completion, accuracy, and timeliness 100% of the time.

III) Knowledge of Laws, Regulations, Policies / Procedures, Skills, and Abilities
A) Knowledge of Texas Administrative Code, SSI / Medicaid, and SSDI / Medicare eligibility requirements.
B) Understanding of Behavioral Health and Family Partner Support Services policies, procedures, and principles of recovery.
C) Sufficient knowledge of mental health and substance use practices to comfortably interact with staff, families, and individuals with mental illness and addiction.
D) Ability to utilize personal experience parenting a child with emotional / mental health needs to support others effectively.
E) Demonstrates effective organizational skills, time management, and self-motivation with the ability to work autonomously.
F) Exhibits knowledge of and commitment to ethics, cultural competence, and professional boundaries.
G) Understands and respects client confidentiality laws, agency guidelines, and other client rights.
H) Experience accessing local community support services and ability to navigate and advocate through various systems.
I) Skilled in establishing trusting relationships with peers using excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively.
J) Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and ability to plan and carry out all assignments effectively.
IV) Internal & External Customer Service
A) This position requires extensive internal and external contacts. The employee will accomplish this with advanced written and verbal skills.
B) Must demonstrate compassion, trauma-informed care, and safety practices including suicide safe care.
V) Travel
A) Adhere to MHMR Mileage and Travel reimbursement policy and any other aspect regarding travel.
B) Position requires routine travel within Tarrant County. A company vehicle may be available, or you may be expected to use your personal vehicle.
VI) Equipment Used
A) Utilized as required for position.

VII) Minimum Qualifications
A) Minimum Education : High School Diploma / GED
B) Defined Education : None
C) Preferences : Experience parenting child with diagnosis of psychosis
D) Substitutions : None
E) Years' Experience : One (1) year
F) Defined Experience : At least one (1) year as primary caretaker parenting a child / family member with mental health needs, experience in navigating the community systems and mental health services.
G) License / Certifications : Valid Texas Driver's License, within one (1) year of hire date obtain Family Partner certification and maintain certification biannually by completing CEU's provided in Tarrant County when available.
H) Special Courses : Complete Family Partner Training within 6 months of hire date.

A) All staff are required to participate in agency Emergency Preparedness and Environmental Safety programs and may be assigned by their department as a key / essential staff level function during critical events or for the purpose of sustaining business continuity.
B) This position may require temporary or permanent re-assignment to any MHMR Tarrant facility as determined by program needs and / or the Division / Director.
C) Assigned work hours may change as the needs of the agency change.
D) The Functional Title of this position may change as the needs of the agency change.
E) All work will be completed within the scheduled work hours. All non-exempt (hourly) employees are expected to clock in and clock out for each work shift, no work should be done off the clock.
F) MHMR reserves the right to change, add to or eliminate positions as it deems appropriate.

H) Agency dress code is to be followed at all times.
