Employment Type: Full time Shift: Day Shift Description: Assesses financial needs of new and established patients related to clinical care, according to specified protocol. Researches individual patients' financial options and provides findings to patients and care providers, which may be used to inform treatments decisions. Provides services in areas of financial need to patients, families, and the health care team as appropriate. Provides patient and health care team education, links to resources and data collection in accordance with the process identified. What the Clinical Financial Consultant will need: Minimum: Bachelor's degree in finance, business, counseling or social work. Preferred: Master's degree Licensed in State of Michigan as a Clinical Social Worker (LMSW) 2 years in medical field working with the financial needs of patients. Preferred: Experience with Medicare health plans, COBRA regulations, Medicaid guidelines, PAP, co-pay assistance programs and ACA (Marketplace). Effective communication skills. High level of initiative and ability to self-direct to solve financial problems of patients. Ability to work collaboratively with the treatment team. Time management and organization skills, permitting the effective execution of several concurrent projects and priorities. What the Clinical Financial Consultant will do: Assess the financial needs of St. Mary's Health Care patients, establish a positive, supportive relationship, assist in developing a plan of care and thoroughly document findings, recommendations and interventions. Proactively anticipate pending financial toxicity for all patients using services at the Lacks Cancer Center. Proactively educate patients regarding insurance optimization opportunities, specifically for patients enrolled in Marketplace Policies, Medicare and Medicare part D. Proactively enroll all qualifying patients into Patient Assistance Programs and Co-Pay Assistance Programs. Educate qualifying patients regarding entitlement programs such as SSI, SSDI, Medicare Savings Program, Low Income Subsidy and Medicaid. Communicate and collaborate with the treatment team the financial implications of medical intervention on both the patient and the health care provider. In collaboration with the ordering physician, recommend treatment interventions that best fit the patient's medical and financial needs. Serve as an active member of the Revenue Cycle Committee. Report on a quarterly basis the savings generated by the Clinical Financial Consultant team. Interacts with Medicare, insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies and other assistance programs as a Champion for the patient.
