Essential Functions & Tasks
- Implements the One School counseling program by integrating cultural, ethical, and professional competencies to address the distinct developmental needs of middle school students.
- Provides preventative education and social-emotional skill building, along with counseling for students during times of transition, heightened stress, and critical change, helping them navigate the challenges of early adolescence.
- Utlize established counseling practices and diverse intervention strategies, as outlined in the school’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), to address the needs of individuals, groups, or the school community throughout all phases of crisis response.
- Supports the continuum of mental health services by implementing prevention strategies, tiered interventions, and collaborating with both school-based and community mental health providers to enhance student success and emotional well-being.
- Fosters strong family and community partnerships to support the social, emotional, and academic development of all middle school students, creating a supportive network that empowers students to succeed.
- Provides transition programming, orientations, and personalized support to help new Middle School students feel connected and prepared to navigate the academic and social challenges of their new environment.
- Collaborates with school teams, including the Student Support Team, Divisional Leadership Team, and Character Education Team, while actively engaging in counselor team meetings to provide coordinated and comprehensive support for students.
- Master's Degree or higher in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field
- 5 years of experience working with children and families
- Licensure in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field
- Experience with crisis management
- Experience working with students with learning differences and social and emotional difficulties in a school setting
- Understand and support the strategic vision and mission of the institution.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work on multiple tasks and projects.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to simplify complex issues and analyze problems.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Anticipates and averts problems, using sound judgment and strong decision-making skills.
- Must be able to sit and stand for long periods of time and may require lifting up to 30lbs.
- Adequate physical mobility, dexterity, and strength to participate in a school environment and able to ambulate across campus.
