Description :
Corrections officers for the Miami County Sheriff's Office are responsible for the intake and release and daily observation of inmates. The staff rotates work responsibilities between our two facilities. The "Full-Service Jail", a linear, bar-style jail located in downtown Troy houses higher-classified inmates, while the "Minimum Security Facility", an open, pod-style jail located on N. CR 25A north of the fairgrounds houses the lower-classified, mainly non-violent inmates. We currently operate on 12-hour shifts from 7a-7p and 7p-7a which offers correction officers every other weekend off and the ability to work 7 days in a 14-day period. Corrections officers' main responsibility is the care, custody, and control of all inmates housed in our facilities.
Deputies can be assigned to :
- Control Room Operations
- Intake and Release of Inmates
- Photographing and fingerprinting inmates
- Direct Supervision of up to 60 inmates in one pod
- Log all daily inmate activities
- Possibility of promotion to Corrections Sergeant or Lieutenant
Salary Information :
Starting pay can range between $23.19 and $26.63 an hour after completing all the steps under the current contract. Under the current contract, the top pay for a Deputy is $36.65 an hour.

Testing Process :
Upon completion of the entry-level exam, all candidate scores are automatically forwarded to the MCSO. Candidates who attain a passing score will be placed on the department's eligibility list. MCSO will contact candidates on the list and will invite them to continue to participate in other stages of the selection process.
