What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engagement Coordinator, MOAD position at Miami Dade College?
The Engagement Coordinator supports the coordination of projects related to Education, Visitor Services, and Digital Outreach for the Freedom Tower galleries and external venues. The position designs and implements effective processes to enhance visitor experiences, foster lasting relationships, and inspire repeat visits. The position also assists with ongoing oral history archives, developing content for student groups, contributing to social media and digital platforms, and serving as a liaison with campus and community partners.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assists the Executive Director with all facets of Education, Visitor Services, and Digital Outreach operation
- Contributes to identifying solutions, sourcing materials, and making recommendations to insure best practices for visitor experience
- Writes interpretive materials related to exhibitions and collections, including activities related to K-12 engagement, visitor engagement, and digital outreach
- Undertakes research in support of MOAD programs as well as organize and implement events and programming for college students and Miami communities
- Conducts outreach to Miami Dade College staff, faculty, and students
- Engages in research to better contextualize MOAD exhibitions, especially focusing on Miami and Florida history
- Supports programs, tours, public events, lectures, and panel discussions on behalf of MOAD
- exhibitions and activities
- Contributes to and enhances the MOAD and Freedom Tower blog, web page, and social media outlets
- Collaborates with staff to increase museum membership
- Collaborates with staff to schedule tours and lead those tours as needed
- Manages staffing schedule for Visitor Services and Gift Shop
- Identifies gaps and needs in gift shop, entry experience, and gallery engagement to allow for a cohesive museum experience
- Contributes to the budgeting efforts and grant narratives related to Visitor Services, Education, and Digital Outreach
- Conducts administrative responsibilities as assigned and participates in the day-to-day activities of public engagement at the Freedom Tower and Dyer Building exhibition spaces
- Contributes to and organizes information for MOAD’s annual report
- Revises and updates visitor services manual and student employee guidelines
- Supervises student interns and employees
- Actively participates in events related to the community and MDC Cultural Affairs and promote
- cooperation and collaboration among the MDC Cultural Affairs partners and the community
- Serves as department representative at meetings
- Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
- Master’s degree in Public History, Education, Museum Studies, Curatorial Studies, or related field and one (1) years’ experience in cultural heritage tourism, historical sites, museums, or other related facilities; or Bachelor’s degree in Public History, Education, Museum Studies, Curatorial Studies, or related field and five (5) years’ experience in cultural heritage tourism, historical sites, museums, or other related facilities
- All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
- Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
- Broad knowledge of Miami and Florida history with a special focus on immigrant populations
- Demonstrated experience collaborating with diverse stakeholders and organizations community engagement initiatives
- Demonstrated experience in developing public awareness initiatives, educational programs, archives, research, and/or training programs focused on Florida’s history and culture heritage
- Knowledge of current museum interpretation methods and strategies
- Strong written and verbal communication skills including demonstrated publication history, comfortability with public speaking
- Knowledge of cultural landscape with respect to contemporary place-based museums, history-telling and storytelling, and interpretive methodologies and new museum paradigms
- Exceptional communicator across teams composed of deep subject matter and technical
- Demonstrated ability to tailor project delivery in alignment with the context of circumstances
- Ability to work flexible schedule to include evening and weekend assignments as needed
- Ability to work in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff
