The Upper School Visual Arts Teacher fosters an appreciation for the visual arts in grades 7-12. He or she shows an eagerness and prowess for developing students' skills in a variety of mediums, fostering creativity, and incorporating interdisciplinary concepts that are germane to the school’s mission (i.e., sustainability). Under the direct leadership of the Upper School Head, the Associate Upper School Head, in collaboration with the Discipline Chair, and guided by the Goals & Criteria, he / she will work independently and collaboratively to provide a stimulating and developmentally appropriate educational environment for all learners.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- A commitment to the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart network schools as articulated in the school mission.
- Utilizing cognitive science and educational research to inform teaching practices.
- Providing instruction on a wide range of age-appropriate Visual Arts topics for students in grades 7-12.
- Maintaining professional currency with industry standards in visual arts curriculum design, including proficient level pedagogical knowledge of visual arts for students in the Lower School.
- Creating and defining goals and objectives for unit and daily lesson plans, preparing classroom activities, organizing teaching materials, evaluating student performance, maintaining classroom records, and managing time effectively.
- Submitting grade reports and student comments at specified intervals.
- Holding conferences with students, parents, administrators, and other professionals.
- Participating in faculty meetings, liturgies, chapels, retreats, school assemblies, and special events such as, but not limited to, back-to-school night, admissions showcases, and graduation.
- Engaging in curriculum reviews and collaborating on Discipline initiatives.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
