The Process Engineer will be responsible for the design and production of profile extrusion tooling, as well as the development of customized processes aimed at enhancing overall quality, material efficiency, and productivity. This role requires close collaboration with the Manufacturing, QC, Materials, and Sales teams to ensure alignment and achievement of shared goals.

Description

Responsibilities:

  • Design tooling and develop processes for mono and co-extrusion plastic profiles, tubes, and secondary fabrication, either independently or in collaboration with fellow Process Engineers.
  • Take a hands-on leadership role in the development of new tooling for assigned projects, ensuring samples meet customer expectations for quality and timely delivery.
  • Collaborate with production, maintenance, and quality control teams to refine processes and obtain approval for first article samples.
  • Manage tooling requirements for new products, coordinating with Die Development, technicians, the Production Manager, and other key personnel to ensure successful production of first article samples.
  • Oversee the machine shop's tooling activities, ensuring that tools meet design specifications and uphold the company's high standards of design and craftsmanship.
  • Act as a systems analyst for the machine shop, managing communication between internal teams and external vendors.
  • Prioritize and coordinate tooling activities in the machine shop, working closely with other engineers and the VP of Engineering to ensure tools are delivered to the production line as scheduled.
  • Partner with the Supply Chain Manager to manage procurement for the machine shop, including steel, metals, and other shop materials.
  • Support tooling needs across different departments and sites, continuously seeking improvements in process efficiency through redesigns with minimal lead times and optimal designs.
  • Troubleshoot process challenges daily and provide ongoing support to the production team.
  • Work closely with the Production Manager to address urgent tooling rebuilds or other unplanned tooling requirements.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing efficiency and reducing scrap.

Profile

Ideal Candidate:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in plastic manufacturing, with a focus on plastic extrusion die design and process development preferred.
  • Strong understanding of various plastic resins and processing techniques.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and CAD/CAM software.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects with great attention to detail, both independently and with guidance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Skilled in reading and interpreting technical drawings.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
