Come join our growing team! We have an excellent opportunity for a full-time metal fabricator. This position is responsible for fabrication, welding, assembly and setup/tear-down of custom designed material handling systems for wood processing machinery.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Fabrication of engineered custom-designed machinery. Operate equipment such as band saw, cut off saw, belt sander, drill press, disc grinder, punch press, lathe, forklift and various other shop equipment.
- Read and interpret work orders, and engineering drawings to determine specifications such as layout, assembly, materials, dimensions, tolerances, proper labeling of parts, welding requirements and proper fit up.
- Fit and weld in flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions.
- Measure dimensions of finished work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications using precision measuring devices.
Required Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or minimum of 6 months to one year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of welding machine settings, wire feeds, other welding equipment and shielding gas requirements.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment.
- Must be self-motivated and proactive.
- Ability to read and interpret documents furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, blueprints, quality manuals and procedure manuals.
- Ability to read a tape measure within 1/16”.
- Ability to use calipers and micrometers
- Experience using levels and squares.
- Ability to perform simple shop math, convert decimals to fractional equivalents.
- Ability to use weld fit gauges to ensure proper weld size and interpret tolerances
- Must be able to identify and measure material.
- Possess a strong knowledge of sheet metal forming and of welding including Stick, MIG and TIG.
- Must demonstrate a high level of mechanical skills.
- Must exhibit strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Must be able to work in unregulated temperatures as needed.
- Experience with basic hand tools and machine tools including the operation of small equipment and tools such as saws, sanders, drill presses, grinders and other various shop equipment.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to travel domestically by air or car on a regular basis.
