Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Assistant Director for our Child Care Center. The Assistant Director will support the center's leadership team in overseeing daily operations, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for children, and building strong relationships with families and staff. This role requires an individual who is enthusiastic, organized, and committed to fostering developmentally appropriate practices in early childhood education.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director in leading and supporting teaching staff.
  • Collaborate with parents to ensure the best care and education for their children.
  • Oversee the Parent Advisory Board and encourage active parent involvement.
  • Foster positive relationships with families, teachers, and state licensing authorities.
  • Ensure an educational, caring, and safe environment for all children.
  • Be responsible for classroom management and support teachers in achieving developmental and academic goals for children.
  • Serve in a wide variety of roles throughout the center as needed, including as a lead teacher.
  • Provide administrative support including assisting with enrollment, achieving operational objectives, and grant writing.
  • Ensure compliance with State of Michigan Licensing Guidelines and regulations.
  • Be comfortable with using computers and learning new software programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education/Development, or a CDA in Preschool is required.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience working in a childcare setting.
  • Proven classroom management skills and understanding of developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with staff, parents, and external stakeholders.
  • Willingness to adhere to and/or obtain any necessary qualifications in accordance with State of Michigan Licensing Guidelines.
  • Extensive background check (fingerprinting) and TB test required.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification, or willingness to obtain.
  • Ability to assume postures in low levels to interact physically with children and engage in physical activities with them.
  • Strong organizational, administrative, and communication skills.
  • Must be physically able to perform required tasks and duties (e.g., computer use, working indoors and outdoors).
  • Must be able to multi-task
