Behavior Intervention Specialist
Position Overview:
The Behavior Intervention Specialist plays a critical role in supporting students, staff, and systems by applying positive behavior supports. This position involves designing, implementing, and evaluating Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) to address inappropriate behaviors and enhance students’ academic success. Additionally, the specialist provides classroom and school-wide behavior management strategies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- College Bachelor’s degree or higher-level certification
- Experience working with at risk or behaviorally challenged students
- Expert knowledge of function-based intervention planning for developing behavior change strategies that focus on reducing problem behavior and increasing more appropriate behavior.
- Expert knowledge of techniques needed to successfully complete effective Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA), function –based interventions, and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP).
- Exceptional knowledge in the use of assessment and assessment data to inform instruction and prescribe work plans for individual students.
- Exceptional knowledge in the use of technology to support instruction
- Demonstrate ability to plan and evaluate strategies for improving instruction
- Ascribe to the philosophy that all children can succeed and demonstrates the commitment to do what is necessary to make this a reality
- Demonstrate exceptional skill in the roles of a teacher leader: collaborator, action researcher, reflective practitioner, and learner advocate
- Proficiency in research-based instructional strategies, technology integration, and data-driven decision-making.
- Strong collaboration, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement comprehensive behavior support programs at the school level.
- Behavior Intervention – Daily duties included working with students both in classrooms, one-on-one, and small group, data collection, observation, reporting, and student advising.
- Conduct Functional Behavioral Assessments and design individualized Behavior Intervention Plans.
- Provide training and support to staff in behavior management techniques and interventions.
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and administrators to address students’ behavioral and academic needs.
- Promote school-wide positive behavior support systems and crisis intervention strategies.
- Use assessments to track student progress and inform instruction.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current on research and best practices.
- Facilitate conflict resolution, peer mediation, and parent empowerment strategies.
- Serve as a consultant to school staff and participate in school improvement initiatives.

- Deep understanding of reinforcement principles, behavior analysis, and intervention techniques.
- Ability to create and evaluate strategies for improving instruction and behavior.

Scope of Work:
The Behavior Intervention Specialist directly supports students identified through the Child Study process as requiring supplemental behavior interventions. Reporting to the building principal and district representatives, this role involves providing targeted strategies and activities to ensure student success.
