Job Title:
Maintenance Coordinator
Job Summary:
The maintenance coordinator works with the Director of Operations, department directors and
building principals to plan, coordinate, manage and facilitate building maintenance and
operations activities to ensure compliance with specifications, student safety, operations
requirements, and district standards for quality. Works with Director of Operations and
building/program administrators to plan, develop, assess, communicate, update and coordinate
routine, preventive maintenance and repair functions on district-owned/leased facilities and
equipment. Areas of responsibility and oversight include plumbing, heating/air conditioning
systems, carpentry, painting, hot water boilers, and electrical and mechanical equipment.
Essential Duties (May include, but not limited to):
1. Responsible for working with the Director of Operations, department directors and
building principals to plan, coordinate, manage and facilitate building maintenance
operations activities to ensure compliance with specifications, student safety, operations
requirements, and district standards for quality.
2. Performs routine and preventive maintenance and repair functions on district owned/
leased facilities and equipment.
3. Assists with screening and interviewing for third party contracted employees for the
Operations Department as assigned.
4. Develops, coordinates and documents training of maintenance.
5. Works with the Director of Operations to coordinate and facilitate professional
development and training activities for custodial staff.
6. Researches and recommends to the Director of Operations needed equipment, supplies,
and services, to include costs, timelines, and procedures.
7. Communicates with the Director of Operations on cost projections and plans for future
maintenance activities to facilitate budget development.
8. Meets with building principals/head custodians to plan, coordinate and facilitate after
hours doors, HVAC, building setups, and special events.
9. Notifies the Director of Operations of areas of concern or building safety/maintenance
issues.
10. Attends and participates in planning, sharing and discussion meetings with Genesee
County area supervisors of maintenance and operations.
11. Develops specifications and requirements for district maintenance projects, secures
quotes and recommends quotes to the Director of Operations.
12. Reviews and recommends approval/disapproval of requests for payments for
maintenance and operations projects.
13. Operates computer-controlled heating and cooling and alarm systems.
14. Develops district maintenance work order schedules and after-hours projects, when
necessary, to maintain district standards.
15. Supervises and evaluates maintenance staff.
16. Maintains/receives/responds to calls from alarm company 24 hours per day.
Communicates issues to Director of Operations.
17. Consistently models Win-Win leadership.
Other Duties:
1. Sees that the American flag is flown each workday and is displayed in an appropriate
manner throughout the district. Flies, displays, and stores the American flag in
accordance with recommended governmental standards.
2. Develops and maintains a maintenance repair equipment inventory and tracking system.
3. Performs other related duties in the department as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent required. Courses taken through adult/community education
programs, community college, college, or certification of workshop completion in at least five of
the following areas required: plumbing, hot water boilers, electrical, basic
carpentry/construction, pneumatic controls, refrigeration, pesticides, or practices dealing with
asbestos/safety and SWPP Certified. Continued course work, training or certification of
workshop completion required in all remaining areas within 12 months after completion of
probationary period required. Valid Michigan driver’s license required. Certificate in Forklift Truck
operation required.
Experience:
Ten (10) years successful building/grounds experience required. Three years’ experience
leading custodial/maintenance teams in the performance of their job responsibilities required.
Demonstrated experience using word processing software and Direct Digital Control (DDC) and
BaCNet systems required.
Skills/Other:
Demonstrated competence in building care and maintenance of facilities required. Demonstrated competence in repair and maintenance of heating and cooling equipment, buildings, plumbing hot water boilers, lawn and ground care, electrical and mechanical required. Ability to accept supervision direction, follow oral and written instructions and implement maintenance plans in accordance with district policies and procedures. Demonstrated dependability, trustworthiness, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Demonstrated ability to work as a team member in a variety of of custodial/maintenance-related assignments in order to meet the changing needs of the district required. Ability to work flexible workday and workweek in order to meet the changing needs of the district. Ability to exercise good judgement and follow board policies and established procedures.
