Qualifications
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certification
- Master’s Degree in Special Education or related field.
- Five or more years of demonstrated successful teaching or related experience at the secondary and/or adult transition levels.
- Michigan Administrative Rules for Special education (MARSE) Transition Coordinator Approval (R 340.1799g) or eligible and willing to receive approval.
- Experience participating in and/or coordinating required IEPs, as well as data collection for B13 Secondary Transition and monitoring activity.
- Demonstrated experience working with community agency partners, such as community mental health and vocational rehabilitation.
- Understanding of Michigan, and specifically Oakland County, community mental health and vocational rehabilitation system.
- General knowledge of Michigan Pupil Accounting Manual, especially section 5P Work Based Learning Experiences, Apprenticeships & Internships, and section 5L Transition Services.
Role and Responsibilities
- Coordinate and/or administer all aspects of the special education student career preparation, transition services, employability, and Adult Transition Programs.
- Support the implementation of mandatory monitoring procedures and continuous improvement within the districts to ensure compliance with transition specific state performance plan indicators.
- Design and conduct professional learning while utilizing technical assistance tools and guidance for staff.
- Maintain knowledge of current legal mandates and requirements related to instruction of students with disabilities.
- Serves as liaison and collaborate with community partners for a school to post-school continuum for students with disabilities.
- Mentor and provide leadership for district level high school and adult transition staff.
- Assist in the planning and implementation of policies, regulations, and procedures pertaining to the transition of special education students to adult services.
- Ability to connect parents and students to appropriate social and youth service agencies.
- Knowledge of Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), the Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE), and the State Performance Plan Indicators (SPPI).
- General knowledge of Career and Technical Education (CTE) and EDP.
