Michigan Black Business Alliance empowers Black entrepreneurs through a range of programs and services, including access to capital, mentorship, business education, and policy advocacy. We create spaces for Black businesses to incubate and thrive. We position ourselves in key locations and events and we leverage our voice to advance our ambitious goals for systems change on behalf of Black entrepreneurs. The Mission of the Michigan Black Business Alliance (MBBA) is to help close the racial wealth gap by developing programs and advocating for policies that result in profitable and sustainable Black-owned businesses that are connected to public and private economic opportunities, while building trusted relationships.
Purpose of the role at MBBA
The Marketing Fellow will play a key role in enhancing our brand presence, managing outreach efforts, and supporting fundraising initiatives. The person in this role will be a creative and detail-oriented individual, providing support for our communications, marketing, and development efforts. This one-year fellowship provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in marketing strategy (across several mediums), content creation, and donor engagement.
Core Job Responsibilities
- Develop and execute digital marketing campaigns across social media, email, and web platforms.
- Create compelling content, including newsletters, press releases, blog posts, and promotional materials.
- Manage social media accounts, track analytics, and optimize engagement strategies.
- Assist in website updates and SEO best practices to increase visibility.
- Ensure brand consistency across all external communications.
- Assist in the creation of donor communications and fundraising appeals.
- Support the planning and execution of fundraising campaigns and special events.
- Maintain donor engagement through email marketing and outreach efforts.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
- Experience with social media management and content creation.
- Proficiency in design tools (Canva, Adobe Suite) and email marketing platforms.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Passion for social impact and a commitment to racial equity.
Compensation:
- Compensation range: $16 - $18 per hour
Additional Assets:
- Local Market Knowledge: Familiarity with the Michigan business landscape
Reports to: Manager of Executive Affairs and Development
