What are the responsibilities and job description for the Museum Outreach Specialist position at Michigan Maritime Museum?
The Michigan Maritime Museum is currently accepting applications for a Museum Outreach Specialist. The Museum Outreach Specialist is responsible for coordinating and implementing public engagement initiatives and educational programs for the Museum, including special events, K-12 programs, workshops, lectures, and family activities and recruiting volunteers to facilitate successful program delivery. This position will often coordinate with other departments to ensure alignment with the Museum's mission and goals, while assisting in marketing efforts for Museum programs.
Program Implementation:
- Manage program schedules and logistics, including booking spaces, coordinating with schools, organizing outside collaborators for programming, and securing necessary materials.
- Assist in the implementation of programs like school field trips, workshops, lectures, and special events.
- Deliver programs effectively, ensuring a positive and engaging experience for participants.
- Create program outlines, tour and activity guides, and lesson plans.
Marketing and Communication:
- Develop promotional materials for programs and events, including flyers, graphics and digital content.
- Utilize various communication channels (website, social media, press releases) to promote the Museum institutionally as well as for programs and events.
- Collaborate with the Museum's marketing team to create targeted marketing campaigns.
Volunteer Management:
- Recruit and manage a team of volunteers to support outreach programs, including docents and event assistants.
Data Analysis and Evaluation:
- Monitor program attendance and participant feedback to assess effectiveness
- Prepare reports on program impact and outcomes for Museum leadership
This position requires multitasking, public speaking, and communication skills. Experience with Google suite, Canva, social media, and community outreach preferred. This is a part-time position with a minimum of 25-30 hours per week that could grow into full-time work. Work schedule varies, sometimes including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Pay is $17.00 /hr.
