Job Summary
A position as an Assistant Research Scientist is available to study HIV disease pathogenesis in the laboratory of Dr. Kathleen Collins at the University of Michigan Medical School. Projects funded by the NIH and other sources include: (1) Using proteomic, biochemical and microscopic to understand protein trafficking in HIV infected cells (2) Studying the molecular mechanism by which concanamycin A inhibits HIV Nef
Required Qualifications*
Highly motivated candidates with a Ph.D. in virology, immunology, cell biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or genetics are encouraged to apply. Strong evidence of scholarly ability (publications in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals) is expected. Knowledge and advanced productivity in chemical biology and biochemistry is sought, with the ability to successfully investigate intracellular trafficking. The successful applicant will be skilled in molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry and chemical biology and will have worked on mechanisms of pathogenesis relative to antiviral immunity. This individual will exhibit success in taking the lead with a team of investigators.
The successful candidate will join a well-established team of diverse researchers and will have the opportunity to develop independent research projects. Previous trainees in the laboratory have become independent faculty members at research and teaching universities and senior scientists in pharmaceutical companies.
Modes of Work
Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.
