Mission Statement

Michigan Medicine improves the health of patients, populations and communities through excellence in education, patient care, community service, research and technology development, and through leadership activities in Michigan, nationally and internationally. Our mission is guided by our Strategic Principles and has three critical components; patient care, education and research that together enhance our contribution to society.

Responsibilities*

Applications are being considered for a full-time, research scientist track position in the Head and Neck Oncology Program (HNOP) and the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, University of Michigan School of Medicine. The successful candidate will have a strong research background and hold a doctoral degree in biological sciences, cancer biology, or a related field. A particular focus of this search is on candidates who are interested in cell and molecular biology-based research aligned with the Head and Neck Oncology Program. HNOP fosters active engagement and collaboration geared towards development and application of biomarker and therapeutic strategies at the Rogel Cancer Center at University of Michigan. Specifically, the focus will be on developing and implementing cell-based methodologies for biological models and clinical specimens (e.g. patient-derived organoids) that include, but are not limited to, CRISPR, Open Reading Frame and small molecule-based high-throughput screens as well as single cell and spatial imaging-based investigations.

The faculty position is within the vibrant and highly interactive research environment of the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and resides within the very strong and collegial research community of the University of Michigan. Candidates being considered for this position will be expected to work within a team-based head and neck research program and to support the training and education of multiple learners working in the laboratory environment, including graduate students, post-docs and residents.

The University of Michigan Department of Otolaryngology seeks to recruit and retain a diverse workforce as a reflection of our commitment to serve the diverse people of Michigan, to maintain the excellence of the University, and to offer our learners richly varied perspectives and ways of learning.

We have an excellent benefits and compensation package.

Required Qualifications*

The successful candidate will hold a PhD, MD or MD/PhD degree in biological sciences, cancer biology, or a related field and will have research interests relevant to cell and molecular biology aligned with the Head and Neck Oncology Program. Experience with mouse modeling and/or bioinformatics is desired. Excellent candidates with other research focus relevant for head and neck cancer will also be considered and are encouraged to apply.

Please submit a current CV, a letter of interest describing your research interests and future directions, and three to five reference letters.
