Responsibilities*

  • Performs a variety of engineering work in planning and design of the various electrical systems used in healthcare facilities. These systems include power, lighting, and various specialty systems (nurse call, security, data, etc). Coordination, and/or participation in the preparation of estimates, and/or plans and specifications for several concurrent new building, building renovation, and/or infrastructure upgrade projects. Able to put together a set of Construction Documents (CDs) for execution by turnkey or bid & award construction process. Such projects may be single discipline or multi-discipline.
  • Works with and manages external architectural/ engineering consultants in the design and construction industry. Review and comment upon completed construction document packages, studies, and other such planning documents.
  • Has troubleshooting involvement in, and coordination with, the operation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems; including power distribution, emergency power, lighting and other specialty systems.
  • Responsible for participating in professional engineering committees to establish design guideline requirements for the institution.


Required Qualifications*

Intermediate Level

  • Bachelors degree in a recognized field of science or learning which is directly related to the duties of the position.
  • 1 - 3 years professional experience.
  • Candidate should have excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Familiarity with all normally encountered office automation software (Microsoft products, email, etc.).


Associate Level

  • 0-1 years of professional experience
  • Entry level for employees with Bachelor Degree or equivalent


Desired Qualifications*

  • 1 -3 years' experience as an Electrical Engineer in the planning, design and construction of electrical systems within commercial/ institutional facilities.
  • A Professional Engineer license, or track to becoming licensed.
  • AutoCAD design experience is desired.


Modes of Work

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
