Superior Dairy is looking for an experienced Safety/HR Coordinator, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our employees while assisting the Human Resources department with onboarding/offboarding, training, and various other projects and initiatives. You will provide support in maintaining compliance with safety regulations, coordinating training programs, managing documentation, and assisting in HR-led processes and programs, including new hire orientation and onboarding. This position demands a self-driven, detail-oriented individual who is organized, proactive, and dedicated to safety and a positive employee experience.

The Michigan Milk Producers Association (MMPA) – established in 1916 – is a dairy farmer-owned and operated milk marketing cooperative and dairy processor. As the 10th largest dairy cooperative in the U.S., MMPA serves dairy farmers throughout Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, and Indiana, employing approximately 625 people in four states. In addition to a cheese plant in Indiana called the Middlebury Cheese Company, and a dairy product plant in Ohio called Superior Dairy, MMPA operates two SQF Level 3 dairy ingredient plants in Michigan. Products made at MMPA’s plants include fluid milk, cheese, ultra-filtered milk, ice cream, butter, nonfat dry milk, cream, and condensed skim milk.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Health, Safety and Environmental

  • Assist in maintaining and promoting a safe work environment for all employees.
  • Conduct safety training sessions for employees.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
  • Assist in incident investigations and trend tracking.
  • Assist in developing JHAs, chemical inventory and risk assessments.
  • Collaborate with the team to help ensure compliance with local, state, and federal agencies.
  • Help maintain safety records, reports, and documentation.

This role will also assist in the following HR activities.

  • Lead and/or support weekly new hire orientations.
  • Assist with interviewing during periods of increased staffing needs.
  • Foster relationships with employees and function as a liaison between employees and Safety/HR.
  • Support HR-led onboarding/offboarding processes and training programs under the direction of the HR Manager.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support HR with employee engagement initiatives and events.
  • Provide administrative support to the HR department, including data entry and filing.
  • Assist with onboarding and offboarding processes, including document collection and record-keeping.
  • Assist in managing document collection, employee record-keeping, benefits, and compliance-related documentation.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Highly organized and efficient worker, skilled at multi-tasking
  • Process-driven, but people-oriented approach
  • Energetic and positive demeanor
  • Strong communication skills, both oral, written, and with Spanish Translator
  • Ability to follow directions accurately
  • Proficient in Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with safety regulations
  • Familiarity with HR practices is a plus.
  • Detail-oriented and capable of maintaining accurate records

Preferred Experience:

  • Prior experience in a similar role in HSE.

Physical Demands

  • The employee is required to: use fine motor skills such as finger and hand dexterity to type, manipulate small objects, and operate standard office equipment frequently (> 75% of time)
  • The employee is required to: sit, verbally communicate, and hear frequently (> 75% of the time)
  • The employee is required to walk and stand occasionally (< 33% of the time)
  • The employee is required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds occasionally (< 33% of the time)

Work Environment

  • The employee functions will vary between office environment and production floor.

Protective Equipment

  • No protective equipment is required in office environments
  • Protective equipment will be required in plant environments
