Title: Communications Liaison

$60,000 - $85,000 / Posted Thru: 8-1-24

Location: Remote/Virtual - Must Live and Work in Michigan

Purpose: This position will lead Michigan's communications and public engagement strategy in the office of the chief medical executive. This position draws on best practices locally and from across the country, current needs, and strengths, and identified areas of opportunity.

This position will focus on the development and implementation of communications of new resources available with opioid settlement, updates on Michigan's opioid strategic plan, and community engagement efforts. They will connect and partner with MDHHS Program Staff to develop communications and engagement startegies for Michigan's opioid response. This position will also work across MDHHS administrations to assist with the alignment of strategy and funding in assigned areas. This position will support the Chief Medical Executive's priorities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

To support Michigan's substance, use strategy and implementation by:

  • Serve as lead staff in developing Michigan's communications strategy to promote Michigan's opioid strategy.
  • Serve as lead staff in developing Michigan's strategy for community engagement regarding Michigan's opioid settlement.
  • Serve as lead on promoting the successes of Michigan's opioid settlement fund.
  • Work with MDHHS program staff to develop messaging to the public around different programs.
  • Project manage efforts to implement community engagement.
  • Ensure alignment across departments and state agencies in messaging for overdose response.
  • Lead development of presentations to promote the impact of Michigan's opioid strategy.
  • Support public health priorities of Chief Medical Executive.
  • Develop joint communications with other state departments.
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholder relationships to develop communications that meet their needs.
  • Lead development to communications materials with MDHHS Communications.
  • Identifying, overcoming, and escalating barriers to progress.
  • Always represent the best interests of MDHHS and MPHI.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements

Education: Bachelor's Degree required.

Experience: Two years of leading communications and public engagement activities required. Knowledge of substance use disorders, Medicaid, public health, social determinants of health, or behavioral health systems preferred. Should have experience working in government and cross-agency efforts working with senior government officials.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements: May require limited in-state travel. Requires a valid vehicle operator's license and access to a vehicle to attend off-site meetings, conferences, and trainings.

Responsibility for the Work of Others: No assigned responsibility.

Impact on Projects, Services and Operations: This position will sit within the Office of the Chief Medical Executive at MDHHS. The position is responsible for assisting with projects as indicated and will be collaborating with additional programs within MDHHS.
