Purpose: This position serves as the Overdose Prevention Coordinator for the MDHHS Michigan Overdose Data to Action (MODA) Program. This program is separated into prevention and surveillance components. This position is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the successful implementation of prevention strategies including program development, technical assistance, contract monitoring, budget development, and program monitoring and oversight. The Program Coordinator will be working with program staff, internal/external partners, and relevant groups to advance opioid/poly substance use/mis use and overdose prevention efforts across Michigan.
Duties and Responsibilities:- Development and implementation of the MODA Prevention strategies and activities.
- Identify, develop, and maintain appropriate internal and external partners who will assist in program strategies and goals.
- Provide contract management and monitoring to ensure partners appropriately execute their contract and work plan.
- Conduct sub-recipient/grantee budget development, management, and monitoring for contracts.
- Work with program budget analyst and IVP unit manager on budget and contract monitoring and assist with any reports.
- Communicate with contractors and partners regularly including monthly technical assistance calls, individual communication, contract monitoring and oversight.
- Provide technical assistance as requested to partners that are working on opioid overdose prevention.
- Represent the project in various professional meetings and conferences. This can include meetings with key stakeholders, presentations on opioid primary prevention efforts, and conference exhibits.
- Participate in the monitoring and reporting of activities for federal grant reporting, including but not limited to annual performance reports, evaluation and performance measurement plan, and federal financial reporting forms.
- Participate in technical assistance opportunities from the Centers for Disease Control, including conference calls, potential out of state MODA annual meetings, and any other related meetings/conferences.
- Work in collaboration with the program evaluator, program epidemiologist, program public health consultants to facilitate the monitoring of CDC performance measures, statewide and community data, as well as short term, mid-term, and long-term outcomes.
- Participate in a local community coalition.
- Participate in any Unit, MDHHS and Inter-departmental cross-cutting initiatives and opportunities.
- Always represent the best interests of MDHHS and MPHI.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education: A master's degree in public health, health communication, public or business administration with a health care concentration, social work, or a closely related health degree.
Experience: A minimum of one-year related post master's experience in substance use disorder, health education and outreach, and project management at the state or community level. Experience with contract management, partnership-building, public health program development and implementation, and program evaluation is preferred. Two or more years' experience is preferred.

- Familiarity with State government, State procedures for contracting and reporting.
- Grant-writing experience.
- Knowledge of the principles of program planning, consultation, and evaluation.
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office programs is expected.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements: May require occasional physical effort for transporting display or educational material. Requires a valid vehicle operator's license to attend off-site meetings, conferences, and trainings. Involves significant computer related activity such as viewing a CRT or VDT screen at least 50% to 75% of the time. The office location for this position is at, 320 S. Walnut Street, Lansing, MI 48933 however, this position can work a hybrid schedule (remote/office). All work performed either remote or hybrid must be completed within Michigan. Work location and schedule will be confirmed at time of hire.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE WORK OF OTHERS: No assigned responsibility.IMPACT ON PROJECTS, SERVICES AND OPERATIONS: This position is a member of the MDHHS Division of Chronic Disease and Injury Control staff and is responsible for assisting with projects as indicated. To meet the growing need for staff, support and collaboration on community-based initiatives, this position provides the necessary staffing for recently added projects and responsibilities within the Division. In addition, it is expected this project will have implications for other inter-departmental areas including The Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) and the MDHHS Office of Recovery Oriented Systems of Care.
