Location: Remote/Virtual - Must Live and Work in Michigan
Purpose: This Public Health Consultant will serve as a resource for technical assistance on cancer control issues, especially cancer screening. This position will provide consultation to professional staff, health systems, healthcare providers, contractors and partners, implementing Michigan's Cancer Prevention and Control Programs including the Colorectal Cancer Control Program and the Lung Cancer Control Program. The consultant will focus on colorectal and lung cancer screening. The consultant will also plan, promote, and participate in conferences, workshops, and community events that address issues related to cancer control, as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:Provide technical assistance on cancer control issues, especially cancer screening. Provide consultation to professional staff, health systems, healthcare providers, contractors, and partners, implementing Michigan's Cancer Prevention and Control Programs including the Colorectal Cancer Control Program and Lung Cancer Control Program.
- Provide consultation to members of the Cancer Prevention and Control teams and other
- appropriate Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) staff.
- Provide consultation and technical assistance to contractors and partners implementing
- colorectal and lung cancer screening programs.
- Collaborate with other staff and partners to track changes in evidence-based practice, consider the potential impact of changes on existing programs and services. Promote changes when appropriate.
- Provide information and guidance in the development of standards of practice when
- appropriate.
- Review and update, as needed, standards and protocols, program criteria and policies, etc.
- Promote expansion of culturally sensitive services for underserved and minority populations to reduce cancer health disparities.
- Promote health equity, the elimination of health disparities and systemic racism as it relates to cancer control and cancer screening activities.
Plan, promote, and participate in community events to promote cancer control.
- Complete all required trainings for health equity, implicit bias and systemic racism.
- Attend state meetings/conferences and community events and disseminate relevant information to other Michigan professionals, community agencies and interested parties.
- Assist in planning and implementing conferences and events for state and local health partners and provide training when appropriate.
- Provide technical assistance and collaborate with partners to plan jointly sponsored professional development activities.

- Assist in grant application processes.
- Assist in developing tools, techniques, and reports when assigned.
- Maintain records and prepare reports and correspondence related to work, as needed.
- May perform related essential functions appropriate to this job classification and other non-essential functions as required.
- Collaborate with other MDHHS programs and services to promote cancer control activities and participate in community engagement events as needed.
- Represent the best interests of MDHHS and MPHI at all times.

Education: Possession of a master's degree in public health, health communication, health services administration, community development, urban planning, population and health sciences, international studies, political science, health policy or a public health related field such as nursing, epidemiology, health education, health economics, dietetics/nutrition management, genetics, or speech and audiology; a master's degree in social work; master's degree in counseling; master's degree in education or special education with specialization in blind/visual disabilities; or a master's degree in public or business administration with a health care concentration.
Experience: One or more years of work experience with responsibilities related to public health or health education is desirable but not necessary.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements: Work location will be at the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) in the Cancer Prevention and Control Section currently at the Elliott Larsen Building, 320 S Walnut St, Lansing, Michigan with the option to work remotely. Standard office environment requires use of computer as well as capability of communicating with other offices and agencies via video or telephone conferencing and electronic mail. Employee is responsible for arranging transportation to and from work and daily parking, on days that in-office meetings are required. Travel and overnight stays outside of the Lansing area may be required to complete assigned tasks and to coordinate activities with various cancer control partners. Job may require moderate physical effort including lifting materials and equipment of <50# and involves viewing a screen 25% to 75% of the time. May require valid vehicle operator's license where needed to perform duties of the position.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE WORK OF OTHERS: No assigned responsibility.IMPACT ON PROJECTS, SERVICES AND OPERATIONS: This position performs duties and responsibilities on behalf of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) as an employee of MPHI. This position provides technical consultation to assist in the development and implementation of programs and other activities related to cancer control. This consultant will function as a member of the MDHHS Cancer Prevention and Control teams, which plan, implement and evaluate statewide programs designed to reduce mortality and morbidity due to cancer. While carrying out these functions, this person may have direct contact with many leaders in the field of cancer control and health care in Michigan, including physicians, health care facility staff, researchers, health center staff and local health department staff. This is a temporary position, continuing through 9/30/25. Ongoing status of this position is dependent on CDC funding.
