Michigan Public Power Agency (MPPA) is adding a new role to its Financial Services Business Unit as the breadth and depth of responsibilities of the group has increased. The addition of this new position will allow MPPA to continue providing value to its public power electric utility members.
We are looking for a Senior Accounting Analyst, to work under the direction of the CFO and the Controller, who will assist with financial statement preparation and review, financial reporting and analysis, annual budget, financial audit, credit risk monitoring and reporting and fixed asset accounting. The position will also be responsible for providing back up support to the Senior Settlement Analyst who is responsible for tracking, analyzing, and recording wholesale power transactions for MPPA.

In this role, you will:
- Assist in the preparation and review of financial statements, reports and reconciliations while ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards
- Build and maintain reports to provide for more efficient finacial reporting and analyze financial data to identify trends, variances and potential issues
- Develop and maintain detailed fixed asset ledgers
- Maintain asset retirement obligation ledgers
- Fully functional back-up to the Senior Settlement Analyst
- Review all accounts payable invoices for accuracy
- Assist the Controller in executing tasks that support a clean audit
- Assist the Controller in preparing the annual budget
- Research and recommend methodology for implementation of new accounting standards
- Assist with counterparty credit utilization monitoring, counterparty credit reviews, and administrative credit compliance.
- Experience with general ledger, accounts payable and billing systems.
- Experience with a report writer such as Crystal Reports or Dundas
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration
- Six to eight years of relevant work experience
- Self-starter: Ability to reach a goal, investigate a problem or perform a task with little supervision or direction.
- Critical thinking: Ability to think in ways to find opportunities, anticipate and solve problems and proactively address issues.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Analytical: Gathers relevant information and interprets it accurately
