Position Summary
The Network Planning team handles the design and management of the network infrastructure for MSU Information Technology (MSU IT).
Reporting to the Network Planning Manager, the Network Engineer III will primarily perform the following duties:
MSU Information Technology provides the primary leadership for strategic, financial, and policy initiatives affecting information technology (IT) across MSU. MSU IT offers technology resources that support MSU's mission of providing education, conducting research, and advancing engagement.

Position Summary

- Design, implement, and maintain network infrastructure, including routers, switches, and other network devices.
- Collaborate with other IT teams to plan and execute network expansion and upgrade projects.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for network architecture, configurations, and procedures.
- Respond to and resolve complex network issues and emergencies in a timely manner.
- Work within established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval and success of changes made to the network infrastructure.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to junior technicians and support staff.
- Take part in on-call duty rotation during off/non-business hours.

- Network Certifications; Relevant certifications (e.g., CCNP, JNCIP) are highly desirable
- Security certifications (e.g., CISSP, CEH)
- Strong knowledge of networking protocols like TCP/IP, 802.11, 802.1x, DHCP
- Hands-on experience with monitoring, network diagnostic and network analytics tools
- Hands-on experience with configuring and managing network devices from major vendors, including Cisco, Juniper, and Aruba.
- In-depth knowledge of wireless networking standards, protocols, and hands-on experience with the deployment and management of wireless networks.
- 5 years of experience in network administration or a similar technical role.
- Comprehensive understanding of network protocols, IP addressing, and security principles.
- Proficient in utilizing network monitoring and management tools to ensure optimal network performance.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities with a keen eye for detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration within a team environment.
- Experience with advanced network technologies, such as EVPN and VXLAN.
- Proven track record in upgrading Juniper network routers and switches.
- Skilled in managing change windows, ensuring minimal impact to customers during network upgrades and maintenance.
