The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the College of Engineering is responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction on matters related to academic programs, curriculum, faculty, and student success, including coordinating ABET preparation and accreditation, student recruitment and retention, faculty and alumni affairs, as well as additional duties assigned by the dean.
Responsibilities And Essential Duties
- Lead and coordinate activities related to engineering program accreditation, such as ABET accreditation, including self-study reports and accreditation visits.
- Oversee the development, review, and revision of engineering curricula to ensure alignment with industry standards and accreditation requirements.
- Coordinate and promote innovative educational programs; review proposals for new academic programs and revisions of existing programs.
- Guides the College in meeting University requirements, and evaluates the integration of the mission and vision of the College and University within academic programs.
- Contributes to the development of strategic initiatives and planning for the College, including conducting analyses of college-wide capacity, enrollment management, student progression, and teaching quality.
- Identifies, develops and supports faculty-driven initiatives that will enhance not only faculty, staff and student success, but also the College’s role as a national leader in 21st century public higher education.
- Develop and implement student success practices in the college and ensure that students have access to the resources they need to succeed, including academic advising, tutoring, and other support services.
- Develop and revise policies related to admissions, progression, and retention standards.
- Coordinate and oversee academic space use and allocation within the college.
- Manages student grievances and conduct issues that come to the Dean’s Office.
- Conducts or directs special projects as assigned by the Dean.
- Ph.D. or equivalent in engineering, and a distinguished professional record appropriate for a tenured appointment on an engineering faculty.
- Six years full-time experience as an engineering faculty and rank of associate professor.
- Academic leadership experience.
- Rank of full professor in an engineering discipline.
- ABET accreditation knowledge.
- Strong communication skills.
- Demonstrated success in working with people with a wide variety of personal characteristics and viewpoints.
