Parent Involvement Assistant
Job Description
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) both literacy and oral proficiency
- Honest work ethic
- Strong academic skills
- Desire to serve the LEP and migrant populations
- Good communications skills
- Willingness to be a team player
KNOWLEDGE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Translate for teacher/parent conferences
- Interpret for PTA/PTO meetings
- Translate newsletters, school notes, and other written communication sent to Hispanic community
- Initiates and provides support for establishing and coordinating parent involvement activities at the school and district levels
- Conduct workshops and training sessions for parents of ELLs
- Help ELL children and families transition to Kindergarten
- Translates documents and communications into Spanish to be shared with parents and other Spanish speaking community members
- Serves as a liaison from English as a Second Language Program on the District Parent Advisory Committees
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Exert a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
- Due to amount of time spent standing and/or walking, requirements are consistent with those
for light work.
ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or GED from regionally or nationally accredited institution
- Must posses a NC driver’s license
