What are the responsibilities and job description for the Camp Dance Specialist position at Mid-Island Y JCC?
Summary:
Dance Specialist will provide general dance instruction for campers ranging in age from 3 to 11 years old as well as assist with any camp performances throughout the summer.
Essential Functions:
Create a dynamic and fun environment for campers to learn and participate in various aspects of dance- exploring, creating and performing. Teach movement specialties- i.e.- Zumba, kick-line, line dances etc. Choreograph for the Camp’s end of summer play and other performances as needed. Help children grow and develop new skills. Safety is of the utmost importance. Ensure the safe use of equipment and manage participation among all campers.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position does not supervise any other camp staff.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time seasonal position. Days and hours are Monday through Friday from 8:10 am- 4:10 pm.
Required Education and Experience
Experience working with children is required
Must be 19 years of age and preferably in college
Experience working at a summer camp is strongly preferred
Knowledge and Skills:
Dance or dance instruction background required
Strong interpersonal skills
Positive attitude, outgoing and energetic
Good communication with co-workers, parents and supervisors
Must comfortable being outdoors.
