Job Summary:
The Mid-Ohio Youth Mentoring (MYM), Site-Based Mentoring Program Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the mentoring programs that utilize high school students as mentors for elementary students. Within these programs, for an hour once per week during the school year, the mentor provides guidance, support, and friendship to their younger mentees. This role involves recruiting, training, and supervising high school mentors, as well as coordinating activities and events to ensure a positive and impactful mentoring experience. Mid-Ohio Youth Mentoring currently has 5 Site-Based programs running in various locations within Richland and Crawford Counties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Recruitment and Selection:
- Develop and implement strategies to recruit high school students as mentors.
- Conduct interviews and screenings to select suitable mentors.
- Collaborate with schools, community organizations, and other partners to identify potential mentors.
- Training and Development:
- Design and deliver training programs for new mentors, covering topics such as mentoring best practices, communication skills, the importance of consistency, and child development.
- Provide ongoing support and professional development opportunities for mentors (i.e. volunteer hours for honors projects, reference letters, ect).
- Program Coordination:
- Match high school mentors with elementary students based on interests, needs, compatibility and availability.
- Organize and facilitate the regular mentoring sessions, coordinate group activities, guest speakers, and special events (holiday themed parties).
- Develop and maintain program schedules, ensuring all activities are well-planned and executed.
- Supervision and Support:
- Monitor mentor-mentee relationships to ensure they are productive and positive.
- Provide guidance and support to mentors, addressing any challenges or concerns as they arise.
- Work with and supervise OSU &/or NCSC interns during their field placements.
- Conduct regular check-ins with mentors and mentees to assess the mentoring relationship progress and satisfaction.
- Evaluation and Reporting:
- Collect and analyze data to evaluate the effectiveness of the mentoring program.
- Prepare reports and presentations for stakeholders, highlighting successes and areas for improvement.
- Use feedback from mentors, mentees, schools, and other partners to make informed adjustments to the program.
- Community Engagement:
- Foster relationships with local schools, community organizations, and businesses to promote the program and secure resources.
- Represent the organization at community events and meetings.
- Develop marketing and communication materials to increase program visibility and participation.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related field.
- Experience: Previous experience working in program coordination, youth mentoring, group facilitation, or other related field experience is preferred.
- Skills:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.
- Other Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. (travel required, mileage is reimbursed)
- Ability to successfully complete the MYM background screening.
Working Conditions:
- Work Environment: This position requires a mix of office work and off-site visits to schools and community centers.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to carry program supplies to program locations and participate in physical activities as needed.
- Schedule: Outside of the physical program meetings, (e.g. – Tuesday’s from 2:00pm to 3:30pm at Galion Schools, or - Thursday’s from 3:00pm to 4:30pm at the Shelby YMCA) the work hours are flexible. Occasional evening and weekend work at events & fundraisers is necessary.

Pay: $38,000.00 - $42,000.00 per year
