Reporting to the Elementary Principal, the Assistant Principal for Preschool and Elementary School will champion Mid-Pacific's mission and vision by sustaining a culture of innovation and excellence in teaching and learning. The Assistant Principal for Preschool and Elementary School will foster academic success and personal growth through Mid-Pacific's Deeper Learning pedagogy.
Job Summary
This position requires deep knowledge and experience in the implementation of Deeper Learning and inquiry-based best practices, as well as an understanding of developmentally-appropriate practice. The Assistant Principal for PreSchool and Elementary School (AP PS/ES) will demonstrate a commitment to collaborate with faculty, administrators, and the broader school community to develop and sustain programs that support the Student Learner Profile.
The (AP PS/ES) reports directly to the Preschool and Elementary School Principal, and shares responsibility for all academic aspects of the Preschool and Elementary including strategic leadership in inquiry-based curriculum design and alignment, classroom technology integration, and program growth and implementation. The AP PS/ES assists with faculty supervision, collaboration with the Records office regarding academic record-keeping, and the general operation of the Preschool and Elementary school. This role also includes the essential work of building positive relationships with both faculty and Preschool through 5th grade families, and leading efforts in the retention of families to support a seamless transition to Middle School.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Instructional Leadership
- Effectively communicate the PS, grades K-5, and grades 6-8 curricular scope and sequence, and develop a deep understanding of the 6-8th grade curriculum that follows.
- Support teachers in integrating differentiated instructional strategies that meet the diverse needs of learners.
- Work with the Principal to implement the new Faculty Evaluation Process
- Work with the Principals and VPAA to deliver professional development opportunities, emphasizing creativity, critical thinking, and interdisciplinary teaching.
- Mentor and coach faculty in instructional best practices with attention to literacy instruction, specifically reading, and fostering a growth mindset among educators.
- Partner with the Vice President Academic Affairs, Principals, Assistant Principals, Elementary School teachers, Deans, Middle School curricular and team leaders to ensure consistency in pedagogical approaches.
Curriculum Development and Alignment

Design, evaluate, and refine curriculum frameworks to ensure vertical and horizontal alignment across K-5 grades and partner with the Assistant Principal for Academics in the Middle and High School to allow for a seamless transition from elementary to grades 6-8. Incorporate evidence-based practices and innovative approaches to advance deeper learning and student engagement.
Program Evaluation
- Utilize data to assess program effectiveness and drive continuous improvement in curriculum and instruction.
- Collaborate with the Principal and Senior Leadership Team members to establish metrics of success for student achievement.
Community Engagement and Retention
- Communicate learning goals and initiatives to parents, guardians, and the wider school community.
- Foster partnerships with external organizations to enhance learning experiences.
- Serve as a key player in the retention of Elementary School families
Strategic Alignment

Work with the Principal and VPAA to ensure curriculum and instruction align with the school's strategic plan and goals of Aspirations 2035, with an emphasis on the pillars of strengthening the Mid-Pacific community, deeper learning, and talent development.
Other Duties
To collaborate with the Principals and VP of Academic Affairs on the overall academic vision for the Preschool and Elementary School taking a leadership stance on issues as needed.
- To contribute to revising the student/parent handbook related to the Preschool and Elementary School.
- To serve as a liaison with campus security to ensure consistent practices and protocols that support student safety and well-being.
- To assist with the supervision, support, and counsel counselors, and teachers in the development of student support plans.
- To serve as a mandatory reporter of sexual abuse to law enforcement, child protective services and Human Resources.
- To support the school and its leadership in fulfilling the mission and attaining the vision.
- Duties include but are not limited to the following as assigned by the PS/ES Principal, VPAA, and/or President.
SUPERVISORY DUTIES
- Lead the onboarding process for new Preschool and Elementary School faculty, in collaboration with the Human Resources office and the Principal.
- Assist the Preschool and Elementary School Principal in the assignment, retention, and hiring of faculty regarding their roles in curriculum development, pedagogy, technology integration, and assessment.
- Assist the Principal in matters of student discipline.
- Ensure that faculty are familiar with and adhere to school policies in all areas of school operation.
- Foster a highly collaborative and inclusive professional environment where all colleagues are held to clear standards of excellence.
- Support the day-to-day operation of the Preschool and Elementary School in the Principals absence.
HEALTH and SAFETY
- Participate in the development of a safe and healthy workplace.

Sexual abuse includes child molestation, any actual or alleged illegal or otherwise wrongful sexual conduct with a minor, and serial sexual misconduct, any actual or alleged illegal or otherwise wrongful sexual conduct with more than one victim; and committed by or alleged to have been committed by any perpetrator who is not a student of an included entity.

WORK SCHEDULE
This is a 12-month position with 40-hour workweeks. Regular work hours are Monday through Friday 7:30 am - 4:00 pm. However, these hours may vary depending on several factors. Must be flexible to work outside business hours to meet deadlines.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Our campus consists of multiple buildings on 44 hilly acres that requires frequent walking including uphill and stairs. The individual is required to talk and hear, often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel and to manipulate keys on a keyboard. The employee may be required to stand, walk, lift and carry approximately 10-15 pounds, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, bend, kneel, crouch or crawl. Requires close vision.
