What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accounting Specialist-Gen Acct position at MidAmerican Energy Company?
The accounting specialist is responsible for various activities that include analyzing and reconciling monthly bank statements, accounts receivable, preparing general ledger journal entries and reconciling general ledger accounts. Other responsibilities as requested or assigned.
Analyze and reconcile daily bank statements in Cash Management. Coordinating and communicate with responsible parties the outstanding items needing attention.
Monthly bank reconciliations for multiple bank accounts.
Analyze miscellaneous cash receipts for proper accounting classification. Maintain sub-ledger for these receipts on Excel.
Prepare journal entries and supporting documentation. Analyze and reconcile assigned general ledger accounts.
Maintain subledger for refundable advances to customers. Maintain accounts receivable worksheets. Coordinate with the organization on balances due to customers.
Respond to accounting research requirements for department/organization.
Assist with various sales/use tax audits.
Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
Associate's degree. (Typically three years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess an associate's degree.) Minimum of two years related work experience. Related work experience focusing on independent projects with limited supervision. Effective oral and written communication skills. Effective analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent computer skills to utilize spreadsheets, databases, other software applications and to extract general ledger data. Effective interpersonal skills, a customer-service focus and the ability to work as a member in a team-oriented environment. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
