Under the direction of the Real Estate Accounting Manager, the Real Estate Accountant is responsible for developing a strong understanding of Middleburg Communities’ properties, overseeing the performance of the properties, and executing the day-to-day accounting functions as required. The ideal candidate will bring an analytical mindset to forecasting, preparing, and analyzing property financial packages, as well as, preparing and reviewing reconciliations, journal entries, and various cash flow analyses. Essential Duties And Responsibilities
General
- Develop a strong understanding of the systems and platforms required for accounting functions.
- Possess strong general ledger and reconciliation skills and serve as the primary contact providing expert matter advice to team members.
- Responsible for administering accounting systems, policies, and procedures.
- Supervise the preparation and completion of corporate and property financial statements and bank reconciliations accurately and timely; analyze data, draw conclusions, recommend changes, prepare and process journal entries, and compile financial statement packages.
- Oversee the performance of a portfolio of properties, closely monitor the team’s outputs, and ensure adherence to contracts.
- Prepare and process construction management fees and replacement reserves.
- Prepare and maintain complete, accurate and organized workpapers in accordance with departmental requirements and deadlines.
- Communicate with property manager counterparts to provide accurate and timely deliverables
- Prepare, review, and provide designated annual US GAAP audit requests for the properties.
- Manage ad-hoc projects and other duties as assigned.
- Assist in planning long and short-term business objectives by actively participating in the budget process.
- Prepare and analyze the Company’s periodic cash position report for all properties.
- Prepare and analyze annual property budgets and periodic reforecasts as required.
- Assess corporate and property performance against budget while understanding and explaining significant variances.
- Initiate and/or review transfers/wires/ACHs and process stop payments on checks as required.
Requirements
- A passion for excellence in customer service delivery.
- Completion of a Bachelor’s (or Master’s) degree in Business and/or Accounting.
- 2 years minimum overall experience.
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
- Knowledge & experience analyzing financial statements variances, completing bank reconciliations, creating journal entries, and completing other account reconciliations.
- CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
