Job Description:
Title: Coordinator of RISE Scholars
Unit: MCCC Professional Staff, Senior Special Programs Coordinator (Grade 05)
Department: Student Affairs - Student Support Services
Reports to: Assistant Dean of Student Support Services

General Summary: The Coordinator of RISE Scholars (Massachusetts Inclusive Concurrent Enrollment Initiative MAICEI) plays a key role in the coordination and implementation of this innovative grant, as the primary contact between the student and family, college faculty and staff, the partnering school system and special education collaboratives, and the educational coaches supporting the student on campus. The Coordinator serves as the academic advisor to the students and consults frequently with educational coaches, high school and special education collaborative liaisons, and college faculty and staff' to ensure the successful transition to and participation in the college environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate all RISE Scholars program activities and develop comprehensive academic and co-curricular supports for high school students in transition (ages 18-21 with intellectual disabilities) to promote access to campus life and college coursework in an inclusive setting through the MAICEI grant.
- Assess the learning strengths and areas of development for individual students. Work with the Student Access and Support Services office to review and update individualized accommodations. Assist with assistive technology needs and the development of appropriate learning strategies on campus and in the classroom.
- Consult with educational coaches and high school liaisons regarding instructional needs of students. Coordinate and participate in the recruitment, admissions, and orientation of incoming RISE Scholars students, to include: developing and updating program materials, coordinating orientation programs, and campus visits.
- Participate as the College's representative, on all person-centered planning activities for incoming RISE Scholars students in collaboration with sending high schools/special education collaboratives.
- Meet with and facilitate the training of students on self-advocacy and the use and access to assistive technology and instructional aids.
- Consult with students, faculty, administrators, and other campus personnel regarding students' instructional needs, disability information, and reasonable accommodations.
- Function as the lead staff and trainer, working with faculty and staff, to support inclusive learning strategies, instructional universal design techniques and support to RISE Scholars students. Provide professional development and training to College faculty and staff to promote the inclusion and success of RISE Scholars students in the College community.
- Facilitate career workshops and access to college career events for RISE Scholars students.
- Provide academic advising to students enrolled in the RISE Scholars program. Assist students with course selection and registration. Perform administrative tasks associated with the RISE Scholars program, to include: collecting and reporting of statistical data and analysis, coordinate partnership and leadership team meetings, maintain student files, assist in monitoring budget expenditures and collaborate with the sending districts/special education collaborative and College administrative of MAICEI on the development and monitoring of Memorandum of Agreement (MOA).
- Interact with various agencies/individuals to include: attending meetings, college fairs, workshops, professional development conferences and other activities; communicating with external human service agencies, high school and special education collaboratives, parents, faculty members, tutors, interpreters, other academic institutions, counselors, medical providers, community agencies, vendors, the public, outside agencies, and other individuals.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge in applicable areas to include maintaining a working knowledge of adaptive and assistive technology, universal design instructional approaches, and guidance related to the MAICEI grant
- Serve as a member and active participant in program meetings, department/division meetings, and college committees, as directed.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Special Education, Educational Psychology, Counseling, or closely related field; with three (3) years' experience and/or training that includes college-level accessibility services, assessment, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)/Section 504 compliance, development of policies/procedures, teaching or curriculum development, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- A Master's degree may substitute the required minimum years of experience
- Knowledge of student services and program development
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills and oral and written communication skills
- Ability to advocate for/with students
- Knowledge of federal and local grant processes
- Experience with equity-minded work and/or understanding of individuals of diverse identities such as race, ethnicity, socioeconomic level, sexual orientation, and veterans including those with different levels of academic preparation, varying physical and learning abilities
Preferred Qualifications:
- Leadership, financial management, supervisory, and team building skills
- Master's Degree preferred; Candidates currently enrolled in an applicable Master's program or willingness to enroll in one if hired are encouraged to apply
- Bilingual skills a plus
Additional Information:
Salary Range: $69,821 is the starting salary for Column B under the MCCC 2025 Salary Grids for a Grade 5 position with a Master's Degree annually; actual salary commensurate with academic background and experience.
