Job Summary: The Part-Time Maintenance Director is responsible for overseeing all building and grounds maintenance activities, managing work orders, supervising staff, ensuring safety compliance, and maintaining vendor relations. The director also handles preventive maintenance programs, equipment management, and ancillary duties as needed.
Job Functions:
- Review, prioritize, and complete work orders for building and grounds maintenance in a timely manner.
- Oversee seasonal lawn equipment start-up and ensure sidewalks, parking lots, and playgrounds are clean and safe.
- Remove brush, dead trees, and low-hanging limbs to maintain grounds.
- Train, supervise, and evaluate maintenance and grounds workers.
- Provide guidance on the safe operation and maintenance of equipment.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs for school facilities and grounds.
- Conduct regular inspections to prevent equipment and infrastructure issues.
- Manage maintenance and construction contracts, meet with vendors, negotiate terms, and ensure timely and within-budget completion of services.
- Maintain facility plantings, landscape areas, and grounds equipment.
- Research, order, and manage inventory of supplies and equipment, ensuring accurate records of materials.
- Conduct annual safety inspections of district and school sites.
- Perform necessary repairs on playground equipment and ensure compliance with safety standards.
Ancillary Duties:
- Provide coverage for lead custodians and assist with troubleshooting and mechanical maintenance as needed.
- Wash and clean district equipment and trucks regularly to ensure operational standards.
- Assist other maintenance and custodial staff with tasks as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the administration.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for maintenance and repair tasks.
- Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to make independent decisions based on knowledge of district policies and procedures.
- Physical capability to lift up to 75 pounds and perform tasks such as standing, walking, climbing, and operating mechanical equipment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3-5 years of supervisory experience in maintenance or a related field.
- Proficiency in computer skills for record-keeping and equipment management.
- Ability to operate, maintain, and repair trucks, cars, mowers, and other groundskeeping equipment.
- Capability to work independently with minimal supervision while effectively managing a team.
- Strong interpersonal skills for interacting constructively with staff, vendors, and the public.
- Ability to give and receive constructive feedback.
- Experience with maintaining accurate records of supplies, equipment, and work orders.
- Willingness to work in varying conditions, including confined spaces, hazardous traffic areas, wet or humid environments, and inclement weather.
Evaluation: Performance of the job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board policy on evaluation of personnel.
Salary Range: Salary is based on Board approved salary schedule based on rank, certification and
experience. (Actual salary will be determined upon verification of experience.)
