EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Overseeing The National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) UCR program.Generating monthly reports for the FBI and the Department of Public Safety crime statistics.Overseeing incident reports to include identifying and correcting validation errors.Overseeing Crimes Against Persons reports i.e. sexual assault, indecency, physical assaults, and homicides, ensuring victims are connected and weapons are listed and validated.Overseeing Crimes Against Property reports i.e. larceny-thefts, forgery, burglary, unauthorized use of vehicle, ensuring that all property or vehicles are entered in the correct screens, making sure all information is listed with as much information provided and validated.Overseeing Arrest reports: making sure that all custody and warrant arrests are linked to the correct incident reports and validating all arrest reports for this agency.Overseeing crime trends that include the changes in crimes throughout the county, such as murder and nonnegligent homicide, manslaughter by negligence, rape, robbery, assault, burglary, and larceny-theft.Compiling monthly activity reports from each division. Creating crime trend graphs of all the offense trends reports. Entering all sexual assaults or other sex offense cases related to the “Molly Jane Law“ into VICAP.The Violent Criminal Apprehension Program (VICAP) contains crime scene descriptions, victim, and offender descriptive data, including name and other personal identifying information to include laboratory reports, criminal history records, court records, news media references, crime scene photographs and statements. The data consists of cases involving homicides, missing persons, unidentified dead, sexual assaults, and other criminal cases.Perform data entry and verification of data files.Use teletype and/or computer terminal to access driver licenses, criminal records, various agencies files, NCIC/TCIC and vehicle registration data bases to identify subjects for Midland County Sheriff’s Office Investigators and other law enforcement agencies as requested.Works under the supervision of the section lieutenant with limited supervision and extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.Assists other divisions, sections, or personnel as needed or directed.Provide field investigators with specific information upon request.Prepare, compile, and interpret statistical data. Assist Investigators requesting name checks by furnishing any known or related information that may be of assistance to the requesting investigator. Prepare charts for the department and the public as requested through public or open records requests.Develop and maintain sources of information for obtaining public information and information from other law enforcement agencies.Interact with the general public to obtain information related to suspicious activity or specific criminal activity.Participate in compiling data for specific files to be included in databases.Instruct and provide training to MCSO/CID secretaries and other agency secretaries with informative presentations regarding criminal activities and program responsibilities mandated by the law.Compile information to be used in bulletins, articles, and publications for the benefit of the law enforcement community.Attend work regularly and observe approved work hours in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.Must possess the physical and/or mental abilities required to perform the essential functions of the job.Shall abide by all Midland County Polices and City, County Ordinances, State and Federal Laws.
