ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and aptitude exams and certifications.
- Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
- Conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
- Implements new hire orientation and employee recognition programs.
- Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
- Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
- Oversees and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
- Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
- Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Safety Coordinator
- Coordinates accident investigation, accident reporting, problem resolution and injured employee return to work program for all job related injuries.
- Coordinates Safety Meetings with the Safety Committee.
- Monitors the Environmental Safety and Health Program (Safety Grams/Near Miss/First Aid/Recordables/Lost Time Accidents). Keeps the Plant Manager appraised of all developments regarding safety, accidents, disability and attendance issues.
- Administers safety glasses program and other reimbursements and tracking of personal protective equipment.
Training and Development
- Process owner for plant training procedure, related metrics and record keeping
- Creates learning and development programs and initiatives that provide internal development opportunities for employees.
- Trains all employees in applicable plant safety programs and MIOSHA required safety training
Policies, Procedures, Union Contract
- Administers and interprets union contract and oversees grievance process and related recordkeeping, including problem investigation, employee counseling and providing information to Human Resources Director regarding employee concerns
- Handles employee problems and coordinates resolution with managers and/or individuals
- Maintains up-to-date policies and procedures in coordination with corporate HR Manager
- Administers hourly FMLA, Short Term Disability, Workman Compensation programs and coordinates medical leaves of absences, pay and return to work activities
- Coordinates employee relations activities for the plant (Safety Bucks Program, Above & Beyond Program, Anniversaries, Retirements, Employee Appreciation)
- Complies with ISO/TS requirements; acts as champion of HR Related metrics.
Recruiting
- Conducts recruitment and orientation for all hourly workers
Payroll/Benefits/HRIS
- Responsible for processing hourly payroll and associated reporting to corporate office.
- Oversees timekeeping duties assigned to the Production Scheduler.
- Assists the corporate HR & Benefits Coordinator with administration of benefit enrollments and billings (i.e., medical, dental, life, union, pension, etc.)
- Processes union dues, including payroll deductions and payments.
- Updates personnel action forms as needed. Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
- Processes required weekly and monthly reports (attendance, injury, new hire, termination, etc)
- Monitor benefit deductions, paid leave time and other payroll related earnings and deductions for accuracy.
- Unemployment reporting
- Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
- Facilitates audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.
Administrative Duties
- Distributes crewing schedules and other correspondence to personnel
- Creates and maintains personnel, medical and training files
- Shares receptionist duties with front office staff
- Process owner for record storage.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related degree and one year of HR experience or high school graduate and two years of HR experience.
- Strong interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
- Excellent organization and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
- Ability to work well with individuals at all organizational levels.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications or related software.
- Ability to act with integrity, professionalism and confidentiality.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
- Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
- Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organizations HRIS and talent management systems.
