Summary : This role is responsible for providing basic life support procedures upon arrival to a patient and continuing until care is transferred to a higher licensure individual. The Basic Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) must possess knowledge and skills to assess and manage various life-threatening conditions.
Responsibilities :
25%) Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and physical exams to provide Emergency Room physicians with accurate information regarding the patient's conditions.
25%) Collaborate effectively with co-responders during accidents, fires, or medical emergencies.
25%) Ensure timely and efficient transportation of patients to appropriate facilities for continued care while monitoring their condition.
25%) Implement emergency management strategies to stabilize any physiological or psychological anomalies in patients.
Additional Duties :
Perform non-invasive monitoring techniques, including vital signs and IPS.
Measure blood sugar levels and assess oxygenation adequacy.
Support invasive management plans for various medical emergencies in both adult and pediatric patients.
Manage airway issues as necessary.
Ensure ambulances and medical equipment are adequately stocked and functional for emergency situations.
Promote a positive image of the service through public education and awareness.
Compile written reports for each call for billing purposes.
Communicate patient conditions via radio during transport and provide detailed reports upon arrival at the receiving institution.
Maintain cleanliness and appeal of EMS stations.

Certifications and Licensures :
BLS - Basic Life Support Required within 1 month of hire or transfer.
DMVCHECK - DMV Record Check Required.
EMT-B - EMT Basic Required.
PHTLS - Pre Hospital Trauma Life Support required by July 1, 2023, with a 1-year timeline to achieve certification.
TEAM ADVANCED - Techniques for Effective Aggression Management, required within 6 months of hire or transfer.
Education : High School Diploma or GED.
Experience, Training, and Skills :
Excellent driving skills for emergency vehicles and compliance with the facility's insurance driving standards.
Ability to work independently and effectively in stressful situations.
Geographical knowledge to navigate emergency locations efficiently.
Physical / Mental Requirements :
Ability to handle exposure to stress and trauma, including public interactions.
Must be able to wear necessary personal protective equipment.
Capable of performing physical tasks required by the role including lifting, standing, and moving freely.
Must maintain overall vision and hearing capabilities.
Frequent physical activity including bending and lifting.
Physical Demand Level : Very Heavy. Ability to lift or carry over 100 lbs. occasionally, over 50 lbs. frequently, and over 20 lbs. constantly.
