Summary
The Entry-Level Pharmacy Technician is a great starting position for individuals interested in the pharmacy field. Following an initial training period, the Technician will develop skills to efficiently process orders, compound IVs, manage inventory, assist customers, and contribute to team efforts in the pharmaceutical department.
Responsibilities
20%) Run inventory reports, manage medication supplies in Automated Dispensing Machines, address narcotic discrepancies, and assist nursing staff with dispensing issues.
20%) Compounds IV and piggyback medications, adhering to strict aseptic technique and USP 797 guidelines to ensure patient safety.
15%) Print accurate and timely labels using computer systems for various medication orders.
15%) Utilize McKesson robotics and Cerner systems to fill and manage 24-hour unit dose medication carts.
15%) Accurately repackage non-unit dose medications using PacMed and McKesson repackaging systems.
15%) Manage and fill floor stock, including EMS boxes, crash cart trays, and anesthesia carts, ensuring timely deliveries to various hospital departments; conduct monthly restocking as required.
Certifications and Licensures
Must have current Pharmacy Technician Licensure or a limited pharmacy license as mandated by the state of Michigan. New hires must obtain a full license within 365 days of being issued a temporary license.
Required Education
High School Diploma or GED is required.
Other Information
Additional Duties : Responsibilities may include compounding oral and topical solutions, managing phone communications, and assisting pharmacists with delegated tasks.
Familiarity with barcode addition to products and checking NDC numbers using appropriate software.
Other tasks may be assigned as per operational needs.
Experience, Training, and Skills
Completion of annual Aseptic Technique examination within 90 days of hire is mandatory.
Computer proficiency is essential.
Strong mathematical and organizational skills are required, as is the ability to function effectively in high-pressure situations.
Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with patients, nurses, and pharmacy team members.
Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred; experience in a hospital or retail pharmacy setting is an advantage.
