PRIMARY JOB DESCRIPTION
Operator controls set-up of packaging machinery, set program parameters, loads film and additional components to finished case, documents output, weights, proper codes, monitors conveyor systems, product feeds, scales, and form and fill systems. Completes needed cleaning as required.
Job Duties:
- Operate or monitor various equipment to include but not limited to:
- Packaging machines and scales to maintain proper quality, weights, coding, and throughput:
- Metal Detectors
- Forklift, or electric pallet jack, or hand-pallet jack
- Ink jet printers
- Conveyors
- Perform Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) checks – metal detector.
- Track and record equipment operations.
- Support Food Safety Practices.
- Follow Good Manufacturing Practices.
- Perform daily and weekly cleaning.
- Must be willing and able to work overtime, as needed.
- Follow established plant operating and cleaning procedures.
- Assist with On-the-Job training of new and existing employees.
- Cover vacations and overtime as needed or required.
- Assist other positions and departments, as needed.
- Perform other work as assigned.
Performance Expectations:
1. As established under KPI’s (key performance indicator’s) to determine plant & employee success.
2. Maintain quality and quantity standards.
3. Utilize break periods appropriately.
4. Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required:
To perform successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
1. Be able to work a full 8 hour or longer shift plus overtime as needed.
2. Physically handle the duties assigned, including cleaning.
3. Follow proper safety policies, procedures, and rules; report unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and near misses; assist in accident investigation; assist with safety analysis.
4. Show up on time ready to work.
5. Able to work in a hot and/or cold environment.
6. Perform work independently as required.
7. Attend required annual and assigned educational training classes.
8. Attend and participate in departmental and safety meetings.
9. Learn the theory, procedures and practices involved in the operation and equipment of the position, including any new operations and equipment assigned by management.
10. Work proficiently, neatly and accurately at the speeds required.
11. Perform the job duties resulting in a high-quality product.
12. Perform necessary routine cleaning and preventive maintenance.
13. Able to learn and perform various functions of the department to perform the essential functions.
14. Operate the equipment used regularly by this position.
15. Maintain confidentiality of operations, records and documents.
16. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
17. Ability to understand and/or read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, maintenance instructions and procedure manuals written or given orally in English.
18. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Education / Training / Certification \ License Required:
High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) or equivalent experience.

Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts, sharp cutting tools and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to caustic chemicals, and the risk of electrical shock. The employee is required to climb ladders and stairs. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. The work area is regularly hot.
