CAD Drafter/Designer
Job Summary
The CAD Drafter/Designer is responsible for assisting in developing various plans and designs for a multitude of projects. Project work includes civil design projects (stormwater, H&H, utilities, site design, erosion & sediment control, etc.), railroad track design, railroad bridge and structures, and various other projects. The role supports projects that serve various clients, railroads, and external customers seeking to secure service from a railroad. In addition to drafting responsibilities, this position will assist in the development of CAD drafting standards, standard drawing templates, standard details and sections, and help lead and develop junior drafting staff.
Responsibilities and Capabilities
- A proactive, hands-on role in developing project plans using Computer-Aided Design Software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, Bentley Open Suite products, and other drafting programs).
- Developing new or altering existing drawings, plans, standard plans, and schematics as needed.
- Coordinating with other disciplines to ensure all necessary data and inputs are included in project designs.
- Assist in the preparation of the project design calculations, technical reports, and assist the engineer in the design analysis.
- Perform calculation(s) of quantities, assist in preparation of cost estimates, project specifications, and construction bid/tender documents.
- Provide technical direction to junior staff and participate in oversight of work undertaken by them.
- Assist in the review of project submittals, shop drawings, and project-related questions.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks at once.

- Experience
- Minimum 4 years experience in drafting (preferably in the areas described in the job responsibilities). However, proficiency in the duties described will be considered.
- Experience with importing survey information (GIS, Lidar, Photogrammetry, etc.) to develop project plans.
- Experience with and proficient in the use of AutoCAD, MicroStation, Bentley Open Suite programs. Familiarity and experience with drafting program(s) is required.
- Demonstrated experience and success delivering project deliverables within a schedule.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
- Experience in developing CAD drafting standards or leading junior drafters a plus
- Education/Certification/Skills
- Degree or certification in drafting (or similar) from a accredited program or secondary education.
- Detail-oriented with strong attention to detail.
- Excellent teamwork and communication abilities.
- Positive, “can-do” attitude.
Location: Nashville, TN or Macon, GA areas (preferred) but more experienced applicants may be eligible for different locations.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $24.04 - $26.04 per hour
