- Develop detailed cost estimates for materials, labor, and overhead to support competitive bidding and project planning.
- Analyze project plans, specifications, and scope to understand requirements fully.
- Perform quantity takeoffs to calculate the material quantities needed for projects.
- Create and submit accurate and detailed proposals to clients, ensuring all costs are accounted for.
- Collaborate closely with architects, contractors, and suppliers to negotiate pricing and gather necessary project details.
- Educate and guide estimators by reviewing their projects for accuracy before submitting bids.
- Identify potential risks and uncertainties in projects that could impact costs and timelines.
- Implement and maintain estimating processes and procedures.
- A degree in Architectural Drafting or Construction Management, or at least 5 years of experience in Division 8 Estimating.
- Preferred but not required certifications: Door Hardware Institute (DHI), Door Hardware Specification Consultant (DHSC), or Architectural Hardware Consultant (AHC).
- In-depth technical knowledge of Division 8 products is essential.
- Proficiency in cost estimation and bid preparation.
- Strong attention to detail along with analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
- Capability to effectively manage margins and profitability.
- Proficient in software applications such as Avaware, Microsoft Suite, Ponderosa, Bluebeam, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Willingness to travel occasionally, with an expected total of about 1-2 days or less of travel per month.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, or sit, use hands to handle, and talk and hear.
- Occasionally required to lift or exert force up to 50 pounds.
- Continually works in an office environment and occasionally a construction site with conditions that may include proximity to moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, or various outdoor weather conditions.
