Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Trainer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for supporting and inspiring others as well as learning and development, with expertise in instructional design, public speaking, and training development.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Training Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing training programs for staff supporting individuals under the New Mexico Developmental Disabilities (DD) Waiver. The trainer ensures staff are equipped with the knowledge and skills to provide high-quality, person-centered care in compliance with state and federal regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
· Bilingual preferred
· Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Human Services, Social Work, or related field; relevant experience may substitute for education.
· Minimum of 2-3 years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, with in-depth knowledge of New Mexico DD Waiver services. Prior experience as a trainer or educator is preferred.
· Possess and maintained Current trainer certification in CPR, First Aid, and NM DDSD approved crisis intervention (e.g., MANDT, CPI, Handle with Care). Knowledge and experience of Medication Administration protocols a plus.
· Possess Essential Skills, including:
o Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
o Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
o Proficiency in Microsoft Office and learning management systems (LMS).
o Excellent organizational and record-keeping abilities.
· Valid state driver's license and good driving record.
· Three (3) personal references, two (2) of which will be job or education related.
· Clear record of abuse/neglect/exploitation
· Successful completion of the post-offer process including criminal history check and professional references.
· Interest in and commitment to serving the needs of the developmentally disability persons within the rights afforded to them as citizens.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
· Develop, Maintain, and Deliver Training Programs.
· Create and maintain training materials for staff on DD Waiver policies, procedures, and best practices.
· Provide ongoing training to direct support staff, service coordinators, and other personnel in areas such as person-centered planning, safety, and compliance with Medicaid regulations.
· Ensure Compliance with State and Federal Guidelines, including but not limited to:
o Ensure all training meets the requirements set forth by the New Mexico Health Care Authority and Medicaid regulations.
o Keep staff updated on changes to state and federal guidelines regarding DD Waiver services.
· Monitor Staff Competency by
o Conduct competency evaluations for staff after training sessions to ensure they understand and can apply the material.
o Provide additional training or implement corrective actions as necessary.
· Support and Coach Staff by:
o Act as a resource for staff to answer questions, provide feedback, and address challenges in implementing training into daily practices.
o Offer ongoing coaching to ensure high-quality service delivery.
· Maintain records of training completion and staff certifications to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
· Prepare reports for agency leadership or state oversight bodies as needed.
· Collaboration with Agency Leadership:
o Work with agency directors, managers, and supervisors to identify training needs and gaps in service delivery.
o Assist in creating strategic plans to improve overall quality of services provided to individuals with developmental disabilities.
· Stay Informed on Industry Trends by:
o Stay current with developments in the field of developmental disabilities, including new training techniques, behavioral strategies, and therapeutic interventions.
o Implement evidence-based practices in training programs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Training Program Development:
o Design, develop, and update training materials covering topics such as individual rights, health and safety protocols, abuse prevention, behavioral interventions, and communication techniques.
o Ensure training programs align with state DD Waiver requirements and incorporate person-centered planning principles.
o Customize training content to meet the needs of various audiences, including direct support professionals (DSPs), supervisors, and administrative staff.
2. Training Delivery and Scheduling:
o Schedule and Facilitate in-person and virtual training sessions for new hires and existing staff on DD Waiver protocols, safety measures, and the implementation of individualized service plans (ISPs).
o Use diverse instructional methods, such as lectures, hands-on practice, role-playing, and case studies, to engage learners and reinforce practical skills.
o Provide competency-based training in areas such as CPR, First Aid, Medication Administration, and crisis management (e.g., MANDT or CPI certification).
3. Compliance and Record-Keeping:
o Ensure that all training programs comply with New Mexico DD Waiver regulations, including documentation requirements and certification processes.
o Maintain detailed records of employee participation, training completions, and certifications.
o Monitor and ensure staff maintain required certifications, tracking renewal deadlines and scheduling refresher courses as necessary.
o In conjunction with Service Coordinators, ensure the scheduling, completion, documentation and tracking of annual training requirements including Individual Specific Training (IST) requirements as outlined in clients’ Individual Service Plans (ISPs).
4. Assessment and Evaluation:
o Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs through feedback, assessments, and observations of staff in their roles.
o Modify and improve training content based on performance data, new regulatory guidance, and best practices in the field of developmental disabilities.
o Conduct periodic audits to ensure staff adherence to DD Waiver policies and procedures in day-to-day service delivery.
5. Collaboration:
o Work closely with HR, management, and case managers to identify training needs based on staff performance evaluations and changing program requirements.
o Act as a subject matter expert, providing ongoing support and guidance to staff and leadership on regulatory updates and best practices for supporting individuals with developmental disabilities.
o Coordinate with external agencies for specialized training needs and ensure consistency in compliance across service areas.
6. Other Duties:
o Actively participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to discuss the training needs related to specific individuals or groups under the DD Waiver.
o Stay informed on current trends and innovations in adult learning, developmental disability services, and state policy changes, integrating this knowledge into training materials.
o Provide emergency on-site support and guidance in crisis situations, ensuring staff follow proper procedures.
7. Additional Duties as assigned
Working Conditions:
· This role may require travel to various agency locations for in-person training.
· Some evening or weekend work may be required depending on the needs of the agency and staff.
